Spumoni Hat
  0 customer reviews

Designed for self-striping sock yarns, this hat will make use of color sections that might not be long enough for clean stripes all the way around a hat, breaking the circumference into four wedges. Each wedge starts at the top of the crown and is worked down to the bottom; self-striping yarns are worked from opposite ends of the skein for each wedge so that the stripe blocks are all different from their neighbors.

Each wedge is worked flat, with the second wedge joined to the first as it's knit, the third joined to the second, and the fourth joined to both the third wedge on one side and the first wedge on the other side. This completes the hat with no seaming—just bind off all the way around for a clean bottom edge, and close up the hole at the top to finish!

Choose a sock yarn with wide stripes for chunky stripe blocks on the hat, to make best use of the pattern. Another fun way to use yarns for this hat would be to stash-bust! Use up a different leftover yarn for each of the four wedges, and/or use extra small leftover scraps and change yarns whenever a ball runs out, for a super-scrappy hat.
