I can not understand the negative reviews. Color is bright and beautiful, stranding is strong and it washes well. You discontinued one of my favorite colors. Not the first, wont be the last. I know you need room for new Yarns. I become hooked on those also. Knit or crochet more and complain less. Knit picks offers Yarns you can no longer get in walk in stores.

I LOVE THIS YARN. Period. It's my favorite. I have no problem with the hand dye variations. Every single colorway I've tried has been artistically beautiful. This is NOT Stroll yarn. It is NOT fluffy butter-soft merino. It's also NOT painfully rough to work with either... AND IT SOFTENS WHEN YOU WASH IT. It's sturdy with a gorgeous twist... stunning stitch definition. Basically, if I'm going to spend time making wearables, they better hold up! This yarn is PERFECT. I will be devastated if they ever discontinue Hawthorne!

I am just adding to my andromeda speckle review, I like very much palette fingering yarn, but andromeda speckle is a disaster, . Sorry knit picks for this review, but I feel I need to say it, nobody likes scrubbing they're stained pink feet after wearing hand knitted wool socks.

5 out of 5 stars

I’ve only purchased a single skein of Andromeda, so I cannot speak to other colors. However, as far as the fiber goes, I quite like it! I understand how some may find it “rougher” than say, Stroll Fingering, but, I enjoy this better. I experienced little to zero splitting, and so far my shawl has a very nice squish! I would say it the twist feels similar to an Irish brand many love, without the halo. I very much enjoy the speckles and must admit that for the Andromeda colorway, the hand-painting contends with some of my higher end speckled skeins. I will be purchasing additional skeins of Andromeda (& other colors!) as I think it’s going to be a stash staple! I hope Knit Picks experiments with more speckled colorways for the Hawthorne line!!

I've read a lot of these reviews before buying the yarn, and I decided that since it was much cheaper than others, I would give it a go still even with the comments about roughness etc. I'm glad I did! It is very nice, it's not the softest yarn, but it doesn't adverstize as the softest yarn either, I don't find it rough either, it's just not soft. I made a super cool shawl with it and am quite happy with it in general. The shawl: https://www.ravelry.com/projects/ishalacombe/washed-out

I don't understand the reviews that say this yarn is rough or tears up their hands. I find it very soft, doesn't split and very pleasant to knit with. I purchased Tie Dyed and Aquatic and both produced a beautifully random speckled fabric. No complaints except I wish it came with more yardage, say more than 400 yards. Sadly I see several color ways are being discontinued including Aquatic which is a lovely color. I would happily purchase again.

weight your yarn when you. Get it I bought 3 different color ways only one had the amount of yarn advertised I'm very disappointed

Oh, boy. I was excited to see speckles come into KnitPick line-up, but I won't be buying this yarn again solely because it was skeined so poorly that it took me almost an hour to wind in into a single cake (before dividing it in half to make two-at-a-time socks). The skein I received had not been wound carefully and the yarn tangled about every three turns of my ball-winder. Just when I thought I was getting out of the woods, I discovered that I had received not one 100g skein, but two smaller skeins wound into the same braid...they weren't even tied. The color description of the blueberry speckle is pretty accurate, but the base isn't pale blue. It's white. The speckles are the only thing that saved this yarn from being tossed during the winding process. The color saturation was consistent throughout the skein and I do like the shades they used in this colorway. I've never knit with highland wool before, and I do understand that it feels a bit more rustic, so that isn't something I would consider a negative because I knew this was going to be a fit rougher of a yarn. I am hoping that it will soften up a bit when it's soaked.

I ordered three different colors, not sure which one would look best in a color progression with skeins I already have. I had expected the Sherbet Speckle to be the one I'd need, but with what I received, I'm extremely glad I ordered the other two as backup. The City Lights and the Jupiter Speckles are almost exactly as I expected, but the Sherbet Speckle is almost nothing like the written description. The base is certainly not "pale pink" - it's the same white base as City Lights and the Italian Ice Speckle I have from a previous order (I'm not thrilled with that one either, but it has enough of the blue and green effect I wanted that it works). I was expecting a nice, warm mix of oranges and reds with a little blue (like the picture and description indicate), and got mostly neon oranges and blues with a little red. Maybe if it was done on a pink base like it's SUPPOSED TO BE, it would have softened the orange out to be more like what I expected. The colors are more reminiscent of a bruised traffic cone than sherbet.

I was disappointed that the Aquatic Speckle, which is described as a mint green base, is really white based. Not the color I thought it was.

Knitpicks saying "Hawthorne is a hand painted yarn and colors may vary from skein to skein." is important with this yarn. I purchased multiple skeins of a couple colorways and some look noticeably darker/lighter in the base white from each other, even though they are from the same dye lot! If you are planning to use more than one skein, be sure to alternate both skeins or purchase additional. Otherwise, I love the Knitpicks Hawthorne line. It is great to work with, not splitting, great squish, and soft to wear after blocking.

For me this doesn't look like a speckled yarn, more like a tweed-like yarn. just my thought thoug.

I had purchased the Hawthorne Fingering Cosmic Speckle yarn and one of my socks are nice and bright, and the other one is very dull looking. I’m definitely not happy with the outcome.

3 out of 5 stars

I love the look of all the Hawthorne yarns, but when I bought a skein of it to try out I knew I wasn't going to love it. Although it knits up beautifully, and the scarf I made LOOKS lovely, it doesn't FEEL lovely. And frankly, my knits are to be worn next to skin. I wish Knit Picks would make Hawthorne out of a softer yarn base! I want to love this yarn!

wow, just received my tie dye skeins! color exactly what I thought. doing this : http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/calentito

The colors are usually represented pretty accurately in the picture. Purchased Andromeda Speckle, expecting a pale grey base, got more of a medium grey base. In the picture, the base color looks white. Also got Blueberry Speckle which is perfect. Will be returning the Andromeda Speckle. Knitpicks yarns are my go to yarns for just about everything, especially socks.

I really really freaking love this yarn. I paired the Poseidon kettle dye colorway with Birthday Cake, and I literally loved every moment of knitting with them. For the people complaining about the rough texture...I felt like it was exactly the right amount of soft, with the high twist making such a cozy, sturdy fabric. It made me want ice cream. Seriously. Cannot recommended enough.

Beautiful yarn (though I haven't started my project with it yet). I was a bit disappointed with the colouring (Blueberry). I was hoping for shades of medium-dark blue and there is much more purple in it than I was expecting. Still a beautiful yarn, just to quite the colour I was hoping for.

5 out of 5 stars

I don't know why some of the people are complaining about the colors if they don't match on the pictures. It is SO pretty yarn! I love the colors! I am hoping this yarn will be continue, not discontinued~ I HATE discontinued! Please keep this yarn from getting into discontinued.

I'll start off this review with saying *generally*, I love Knit Picks yarn. I have a ton of it, and I cherish it. However, I have found with this speckled yarn, there is too much variation between the picture that is displayed on this page of the yarn, and the actual yarn you receive. I ordered the Graffiti Speckle color way expecting it to be some what pink tinted, as it is in the picture...and I was excited to receive it, until I got it. It is white with very minimal pink dye here and there, but for the most part is black and yellow speckled white yarn, which is NOT what the picture shows. There is a definite pink tint to the yarn in the picture. I understand that there is variation in dye lots/dyeing processes and I fully expect that. But, when the color is completely different than the picture, it is frustrating. It by no means will make me stop purchasing yarn from Knit Picks, as I have other skeins of the speckled yarn that look much more like the picture, but it just makes you question why that is OK to sell a skein which is so vastly different than the picture. Looking on Ravelry at pictures others have taken of their skeins, it looks like some get the pink skeins and some get white skeins, so it doesn't seem to be like the skein I received was an isolated incident.

I just knit the Stephan West Boardwalk shawl with 5 of the speckle yarns and 2 of the kettle dyed Hawthorne yarns. Very happy with the results. The colors complement each other. Love the colors available, especially with the speckle yarns, which are trending now.

I like Hawthorne a lot for shawls and socks--especially for shawls. The Speckle is good mixed with kettle dyed as it gives plain knitting a real kick. I wish there was slightly more yardage per skein; tends to run out on standard triangular shawls a bit sooner than I'd like. Same for cable socks. However, it's one of my favorite Knitpicks yarns.

I'm crazy about the colors of this yarn, but I just started knitting a pair of socks with it and I won't be buying any more of it. It's like knitting with kite string! There's no softness to it at all. I can't imagine finishing these socks and gifting them like I was going to, I think my grandson just got himself some pretty expensive kite string to use this spring. Sorry for the bad review Knit Picks, but...what were you thinking with this yarn?? I'm going back to my all-time favorite, Stroll yarn!

4 out of 5 stars

Lovely yarn- I'm using the Tie Dye Speckle which has an off-white base and lovely yellow, red and blue speckles - perfect for my shawl. It's close to 5 stars but slightly too rough on the hands, and compared to other fingering weights I think a little heavy? Even compared to KnitPicks stroll fingering it feels a bit heaver.

4 out of 5 stars

This is a fun yarn and I think it will wear better than the softer Stroll. The confetti has a true cream background with red, yellow, blue and green speckles (no purple as described). The speckles are unevenly distributed - there were at least 2-3 times as many speckles at the beginning compared with further into the ball, leaving socks with an unbalanced appearance. Still, I'm pleased with overall effect.

I purchased 3 skeins of Speckle in Aquatic and made a sweater for my grandniece. I used the Speckle as the main yarn and used Stroll in purple as a coordinating yarn in the main part of the sweater and Felici as the sleeves and yoke. The sweater was super cute. Now, I am using leftover yarn from that project for a simple reversible hat, striped on one side and speckled on the other.

Andromeda Speckle is GORGEOUS. I found the coloring as close to accurate as one can get with hand painted yarn. The base color is, indeed, a warm gray. The color specks are fantastic. My skeins have a bit more fuchsia and a bit less green than the picture... but it's handmade! So it's perfect. Hawthorne yarn has a beautiful sturdy twist and does not split. Fabulous stitch definition. Almost no halo. One of the most beautiful soft-yet-sturdy yarns I've ever come across. A++

Ordered the city lights speckle expecting black, yellow and yellow green but got black and bright green instead. It will not work for my project. The yarn is a lovely texture.

4 out of 5 stars

I have just received my skein of Sherbet Speckle. Yarn looks like it is lovely quality. However, the base colour is a much stronger pink tone than in the description photo. Still lovely, but may need to take this into consideration.

3 out of 5 stars

The skein of Andromeda Speckle I received does not look like the photo or the color description. It has a medium purplish-brown color with a hint of gray as the background color. Not pretty and not what I was expecting. The Blueberry Speckle was very nice and matched what was described. Other than that, it seems like nice yarn with a tight twist.

5 out of 5 stars

I just got my order of speckles. Wow, the base colour of Andromeda and Berry smoothie is not what I would call a warm gray. It's more of a tan gray. Also the base colour of Confetti Speckle has yellow tones. Well I will make them work, but they are nothing like the colours shown on the website. They won't be going in the project I have in mind. Socks instead. The rest of my order was GREAT

Knitting Stephen West's Boardwalk shawl pattern with each stripe a different Hawthorne Fingering speckle color and using the Hawthorne Fingering Kettle Dye Yarn for the border. I used the 4 original speckle colors for the first 4 colors in the shawl and I was going to repeat colors but alas! Knitpicks came out with more colors so I purchased additional colors and my shawl will be incredible:) Love the yarn, it is great value for your $!

I love this yarn!! I've made a few pairs of socks with Hawthorne and it wears well. It might not be as soft as Stroll is while you are knitting it, but it does soften up after a wash. I feel like its also more durable and sturdy. When planning on using more than one skein for a project, keep in mind that each skein may very slightly due to the nature of the dying process so you might want to alternate the balls every couple of rows. I loved it so much I made a shawl out of it and I already placed my order for some of the new colors!

5 out of 5 stars

I adore this yarn! The speckles are perfect and I've finally found a yarn that I prefer the crocheted fabric to the knit! I was shocked and excited about how good this looks hooked up. I want to fill a bucket with Hawthorne Speckle and make all the things.

4 out of 5 stars

I love this yarn, the base color of the cosmic speckle however is NOT grey, it's blue. I got 2 skeins which looked very different, but had the same aqua background nonetheless. I first thought I got aquatic speckle it is that prominent.

5 out of 5 stars

I just finished a pineapple pattern shawl in the Aquatic Speckle and I truly loved working with this yarn! I crocheted with it and it felt great and the finished product was beautiful. I will definitely buy a lot more of it.

5 out of 5 stars

Love this yarn! The skeins are quite different in shade, but that's common in hand painted products. If identical dye lots are what you're looking for, don't buy hand painted yarn. Personally, I love the differences and design my sweaters to incorporate those differences. I'll buy more. Lots more! Thank you KP!!

I love this yarn, got two of the confetti speckle. They are quite different in color however, so not using both for some project. One has much brighter colors while the other one the colors are much softer. However I like both of them

4 out of 5 stars

I just received my speckle the other day. I was so happy to find an affordable speckle yarn, but like all hand painted yarns, be prepared for it to not look exactly like the picture. The yarn I received had a lot of black, and hardly any pink or yellow. I was a bit disappointed, but it will still work really well for the project I intended. The base is a nice clean white though. The yarn itself it's really beautiful and knits up really nicely. I would purchase again!

5 out of 5 stars

This yarn is beautiful. It's going to make some seriously fun socks. I ordered the confetti sprinkle and, unlike other reviews, mine does not have a pink tint to it. It is white with various color speckles, just as pictured. I assume it's a difference in lots.

4 out of 5 stars

This yarn is so pretty and feels great! It's beautiful no matter what, but I agree with the other reviewer--the white isn't really white like in the picture (Confetti Speckle). It has a pink hue to it, so if you're looking for a colorful yarn with a pure white base, this might not be the best pick. Otherwise fantastic!

4 out of 5 stars

I really love this yarn, especially with my new majestic needle set I got myself. The only reason why I am not giving this 5 stars is because the white in the white version is really pink. I know this is from the bleeding of the other dye, but it's a real bummer it's not more white. I did double check that I receive the correct color I ordered, but the bleeding is kinda bad. I would order it again to see if I could score a true white, but if it's still pink I'll look elsewhere for a confetti yarn.
