A reflection of the great Northwest, Hawthorne is a yarn inspired by the varied and vibrant place we call home. Each colorway shows off hand painted hues and surprising pops of color that are as distinctive and exceptional as their namesake neighborhoods. With a high twist for durability, this fingering weight yarn is wonderfully sturdy and unquestionably colorful.

I have been putting off ordering Hawthorn as some reviews have stated "it’s not soft", "the color comes off on my hands", etc. I finally bit the bullet and placed an order as I wanted to knit a Hitchhiker shawlet and wanted a soft feel around my neck and a nice drape. I’m SO glad I got this yarn!! I love the feel, soft and no color transfer, it drapes nicely, and has moved up to my #1 favorite yarn. The color on my computer is exactly the color of the yarn. Can’t wait to order more colors!!!!

I purchased The Pearl! Absolutely love this yarn. Knitted a pair of socks beautifully.

This is my number one fav knit picks yarn. Mostly due to the colourways and that it it superwash. The colours are vibrant and not underdyed (like there isn’t too much white showing through due to understate ration of the fibre) and there is a big selection of colourways. I would love to see more rainbow type/multi color options (similar to Euphoria, Impuse and Thrill in the new muse line, but with less white showing through like the Hawthorne usually does). It is not super soft, but not rough either, I love knitting accessories with this yarn.

Had to add my comments in response to other reviews. I have knit up many skeins of this yarn. I’ve probably used about 10 of the colors. I’ve used it for socks, scarves and a whole sweater (whew). I’ve never had a problem with the color coming off on my hands as I knit. In regard to it not being as soft as some other yarns - get over it. It basically tells you it is not a super soft yarn. It is sturdy and wooly and wonderful. It softens up after washing and almost develops a halo. It is great for socks. They feel great on the feet. It is also warm and cozy for scarves - not at all scratchy. I have also made a baby blanket out of the sport weight Hawthorne. People questioned why I would make a wool baby blanket and I responded why would you want to put a baby under an unforgiving synthetic that does not breathe. This yarn washes beautifully so ease of care for a baby item is great. Hope they come out with more colors.

I really like this yarn. I find it has a really great natural feel to it. Some of the other reviews not liking the texture surprise me - the clues are there in the description; it's "sturdy" and "durable" with a high-twist. Is it the softest yarn? no, but then, it's not merino or some luxury fiber. The stitch definition is good and it makes cables really stand out. The yarn knits comfortably, doesn't split and looks great in stockinette or open work (no halo so design elements are very clear). I recently purchased "Springwater" and the colour represented online is very accurate. I am absolutely loving the subtle variations of tones.
