$4.89 - $6.99 50g / hank  Original Price: $6.99

No need to panic - Gloss isn't going away for good! We are working on a color refresh, and will have fabulous new colors for you before the new year.

Gloss elevates the indulgence of handknit socks to a whole new level. Soft, cushiony Merino blended with the sheen and velvety texture of silk makes the socks a solace for your feet. The way light magically plays off the silk begs for textured stitches ranging from lace to cables. Imagine incorporating the qualities of Gloss beyond socks into lace scarves and shawls. Warm and brilliantly colored with an elegant drape - an heirloom to be enjoyed for years.

"I wanted to let you know I completed a beautiful sweater using Gloss sock yarn... I think you might want to take the "sock" out of the title!  I used a #5 needle and knit at 5.5 st/in.  It crochets nicely too, and the resulting fabric is beautiful and very soft and drapey.  Just wanted to let you know!" Pros - Produced a nice fabric with good stitch definition. The "gloss" aspect is very subtle - not shiny or sparkly but rather just enough to lift it from matte. Cons - I gave it a fair rating because in one skein there was an undyed strand of yarn that I had to cut off, as well as a thick join that I was worried would show too much on an otherwise smooth fabric. These resulted in having to join new yarn twice in one glove.

I was looking forward to knitting with this yarn due to the fiber content. While balling the first of three skeins I found three breaks in one of the plies, maybe a quarter of the way in. I did not bother to ball the other two skeins. The yarn is going back.

This was the first Knitpicks yarn I have used and I loved it. It’s soft with a small amount of shine to it. I used about 5 skeins to crochet up a wrap and found no joins, the yarn was consistent throughout. Will be buying again.

Received a sample of Masala color. Good quality but the color is definitely not the golden brown like on the photo, it is darker rust color.

This yarn is beautiful and soft but the hat I made for a friend stretched out very quickly and won't go back. Maybe this yarn would be better suited to a project that doesn't need so much elasticity. I would love to use it again, just for something else!

Gorgeous yarn! Perfect stitch definition, no splitting, smooth and soft handle while knitting. Lovely drape. I knit the Clara baby dress out the discontinued colorway HONEY.

Yeah, not for socks. Walking on this yarn ruins it. It wears very quickly and the silk pills out under abrasion. Save it for something higher up the body! Also: not shiny. The silk adds a certain crispness to the yarn, but not much in the way of shine.

This yarn has a nice tight twist to it, and I never had a problem with splitting, making it a nice choice for lacework. I wouldn't consider it at all glossy, though, and the colors on the screen are not true. I used Sterling and Cranberry to knit the Moon Shadows shawl (Ravelry) and got some red dye leaking into the water (with a touch of Eucalan) when I blocked it. Fortunately it didn't seem to bleed onto the Sterling, just out into the blocking water.

I've used this yarn to make lovely shawls, several different types of fingerless mitts (gauntlets..it pisses my daughters off when i say that word!), hats, and scarves for the grands. A few years back, I bought a bunch of the Bare Gloss and we dyed yarn together with the little girls. Oh what fun we had, and now whenever they wear their hats, they remember the fun we had that day. This yarn is my "go to" for every accessory I knit. I love how it feels in my hands, it works up beautifully, i love how it wears, i love the drape, and I love the sheen. I honestly, couldn't be happier. I think this may be the stuff that made me fall in love with Knitpicks way back in the beginning!!

I'm in love! This yarn is buttery soft and has a gorgeous sheen. I'm using the black color to make a Celestarium shawl, and it's absolutely lovely, with perfect stitch definition and a beautiful drape. I'll be using this yarn for any future projects I want to have a luxurious feel. My only criticism is that it's classified as a sock yarn - it's entirely too nice to use for making socks.

Bought some of this to make a gloves & scarf combo for my girlfriend who finds wool itchy, and she says it feels lovely. I've since made her a shawl as well. It's a real joy to work with, soft and smooth but not slippery, never had any problems with it splitting even though I dropped & rescued quite a few stitches. It's warm but has a delicate drape. 'Hawk' has a nice subtle shine, and 'masala' has just the right amount of tonal variation to give it interest. The scarf went through the wash once by accident and it only got a bit fuzzy and shrunk a little (amazed/relieved). I can recommend a drop of Mane 'n Tail conditioner in your blocking water for extra softness (it has lanolin in it)!

This is beautiful yarn! I have no idea why reviewers have complained about the colors. Sure, if you want bright rainbow primary colors this yarn is not for you. But if you want unique gorgeous coordinating colors this is the yarn. I'm knitting with it and it's wonderful. I can't wait to see the final result. I'm using two Gloss fingering colors and a matching Chroma fingering. Can't wait to see this project bloom!

This yarn is super soft! I love the feel of it in my hands while I knit with it. Because it doesn't have any nylon in it, I personally wouldn't use it for socks, but that's not a huge problem. The only thing that was even a bit of a problem is that the color I got (Kenai) is a lot darker and greener than the color shoes up on my monitor, but its still a really nice color. Overall, this is a really nice yarn.

I really like this yarn! I just finished a large shawl (almost 5 hanks) in masala and I am so happy with it. No splitting, soft and blocked beautifully. I will purchase again. It took me months to finish and I never noticed any pilling. I wish they had more colors.

Nice yarn, decent to work with, as others have mentioned the colours are not as bright in person as they may seem on screen. Something to note: this stretched similar to a super wash wool when it was wet blocked. It worked for my garment, which was kind of small, but I could see it being a real game changer for a piece.

Very sad about this yarn... though it may be my fault for choosing it to knit socks. Upon wearing them the color INSTANTLY turned dull and aged 2 years. The color (blackberry) is as shown, which was lovely. Still sad about my socks :(

I loved working with this yarn. It knit up beautifully. Unfortunately it pilled the first time I wore it. I continue to pull off pills a year later. It is so full of pills I can't wear it out of the house. I used blackberry. Did anyone have this problem with other color? It's a shame not to be able to use this yarn since it works up so nicely.

I really love the stitch definition of this yarn. The colors were a little less vibrant than I had expected, but beautiful nonetheless. I made a pair of argyle socks and this yarn was a joy to work with and made a gorgeous end product.

Used to knit up a pair of fingerless gloves. A little disappointed because it started pilling immediately, but otherwise a reasonable yarn.

I loved the feeling of this fiber! It is so soft, I just want to rub it up against my face. Dropped or tinked stitches rework well. The fingering weight knits up really well in lace projects showing the stitches and holes beautifully. I ordered more immediately after finishing the first project

We use this yarn for our statement tassels and weavings and we love it. The colors are sophisticated and subdued/natural. The weight and feel are great.

So disappointed in this yarn! It is nothing like the online picture. I ordered the masala, and the color is a dull light brown rather than the rich, deep amber portrayed. It is also much less glossy. Boo.

I returned all that I purchased via the kit builder. Color is not represented well on-line and it is definitely NOT glossy. I have purchased other products from this company on=line and I am generally happy with the merchandise, but not this time.

This yarn is amazing. I knitted a pair of sock for my son with this and he loves them. Easy to work with and soft.

I love this yarn! I just finished a lace scarf in the Bordeaux colour. It has a beautiful sheen and excellent stitch definition. It's a great yarn to work with, super soft and also quite warm! I would definitely buy this yarn again.

Very nice yarn! I like it! Need more colors :-)))

This yarn truly has gloss. I love the color play that the silk has on the dye. I have made many bow ties and gloves out of this yarn and they all shine! One thing though, if you ever rip out this yarn, you will have little white fuzziness around that area. Easy to fix though, just pull those out. This is a great yarn, I am constantly impressed by Knit Picks.
