Felici Sock Yarn

$5.99 50g / ball

The superwash Merino in this blend is 19.5 microns (layman's translation: super-duper soft). The nylon lends strength and durability to the wool, making it suitable for the rigorous wear socks get. And the machine washability means you will be wearing them constantly. Have fun playing with the stripes in other small projects like hats, mittens, and baby clothes.

“Knit Picks’ most popular sock yarn, Felici, now comes in eight new limited edition colorways, each with a unique, evenly spaced striping pattern…Try this fiber in a larger garment, such as a sweater, and it simulates an intricate Fair Isle design.” Cast On, Aug-Oct 08

“This Superwash Merino blend is super-duper soft…Have fun with the stripes in other projects besides socks.” Knit N Style, October 08

“Self-striping yarn for socks is the latest rave in the knitting community. Knit Picks has introduced an entire new line of self-striping sock yarns- one of the colorways is sure to attract your eye.” Loom Knitters Circle, July 08

“It knits up well, the yarn is incredible soft, the finished product is comfortable to wear, and Felici holds up well to washing…Felici has quickly become a favorite of many sock knitters.” Knitting Purls, July 08

“Felici is a play on the Italian word for "happy" and "glad" - your feet will be dancing with joy! The superwash Merino is 19.5 microns (layman's translation: super-duper soft). The nylon lends strength and durability to the wool, making it suitable for the constant wear socks get. And the machine washability means you will be wearing them constantly.” Kaboodle.com

“…These are-wonder of wonders-colors I’d choose to use. And the stripes are real, bold stripes, which I prefer even though I acknowledge that make my ankles look fat. And, you know, the stuff is from Knit Picks, so it’s inexpensive but good quality- not much of a gamble.” The Panopticon, September 2008

“The yarn is Knit Picks Felici in Schooner…These are colors I’d choose if I were any good at picking colors; Felici stripes are bold, strong stripes and not wimpy, indeterminate stripes.” The Panopticon, January 2009

“I’ve decided it’s time to try Knit Picks Imagination and Felici sock yarns. I really like the new Felici colorways…For the Imagination sock yarn, I’ve been pleasantly surprised on Ravelry or in person by colorways that previously didn’t impress me much. The colorways I’ve always liked are…well wait, I really like them ALL to varying degrees.” www.jmfknits.blogspot.com, January 2009

"The bold stripes of Felici make it useful for more than just socks. I knit my son a hat with it and it couldn’t have been easier. Self striping yarns maximize the effect of simple colorwork techniques, which means less ends to weave in! And when my son gets the hat dirty—as babies do—I can toss it in the washer and dryer without a second thought!"

I love how soft this is! It's addictive to knit up (instead of 'just one more row', it's 'just one more stripe'). Maybe I've been lucky, but I haven't found a knot in any of my skeins yet, and I have a decent sized stash. I've made a cat toy with some Felici scraps. My cat likes to hold it with her claws and just groom it, and there's still no holes! Don't get me wrong, it's pretty beat up and fuzzy, but the fact that this yarn holds up to a cat chewing and licking the crap out of it says something about its durability.

I am newer to knit picksb ut so far I love this yarn. It is so soft! The colors are sometimes much brighter than shown on the page. I have not come across any knots or breaks. I did get one ball that was wound in the opposite direction as the other. No biggy, I just made a new ball myself. I look forward to new color releases :)

Sure, this yarn is soft and a lot of the colors are pretty, but I don't get the appeal. The stripes are often of uneven width and usually aren't even straight. I'd rather knit stripes with separate skeins and control where a color begins and ends. To me, it's totally worth the time it takes to weave in ends in order to have nicely executed stripes.

I feel for the price this is an excellent yarn. It is soft and very durable. The problems with knots and stripes in wrong order has been there since l first ordered it over 10 years ago. It used to bother me but now I just kind of expect it. The socks feel wonderful and wear well. I would love to see some solid colors. Not for the perfectionist in all of us....but I still enjoy using it.

Every time a new set of colors appears or this yarn goes on sale, I'm always tempted for a second, and then I remember how annoyed I am every time I've worked with it. The colors are beautiful, but I have never had a skein of this without a knot. One time customer service replaced a skein for me in an old colorway and I was so glad, and then the new skein also had a knot. I am generally fine with knots in yarn, even if not thrilled, but in this case it throws off the stripes entirely. The yarn is often connected with the stripes backwards or with much larger areas of one color which ends up being one big fat stripe. I think that people who aren't aware of this issue should either buy more skeins than they think they need for a project, or avoid this yarn altogether. When buying a striping yarn, you expect it to stripe, not to have 2+ inches of the same color on multiple skeins.
