City Tweed DK Yarn

$5.99 50g / ball

This yarn begins with alpaca and Merino fibers dyed two different colors and then blended together to make a subtle rich, lustrous heather. We chose neutral color Donegal tweed neps to incorporate into the 2-ply yarn. Donegal is a series of viscose neps (think slubs or bits of lint) that are suspended in a very fine acrylic mesh which allows them to be spun alongside the longer alpaca and Merino fibers. In the yarn, you won’t be able to see the acrylic web at all, and the neps will appear either on the surface of the yarn or spun inside the yarn strand. The high ratio of neps gives City Tweed a traditional appeal. The use of Merino and alpaca makes it soft and warm. This weight is gorgeous in two-color knitting.

"City Tweed is definitely the softest tweed I've ever knit with.  And springy! And pretty! It's particularly lovely in garter stitch as well."- Allyson, Knit Picks customer

"The City Tweed colors are so fantastic and the yarn is a pleasure to knit with! I just finished making a cardigan with the plum wine color and I already have plans to use it again!" -Meghann, Knit Picks customer

I do like this yarn. I made cabin socks and it is perfect. One word though. It takes 3 balls for one pair of socks.

This yarn has everything going for it: softness, price, range of colours and a great finished product. For me, this is one of the nicest Knit Picks yarns I've ever used. I hope this is one that Knit Picks continues to carry into the future!

I love this yarn. It is soft, knits up easily with no splitting, so soft, has beautiful drape, it's incredibly soft, the stitch definition is lovely for lace and the tweed just gives it so much character. Did I mention it's soft? The only thing I would take note of is that it's delicate and is probably not the best choice for a hard worn garment. I knit a cardigan which is now my new favourite and it is already starting to look a little ratty after about 2 months of wear. I would use this yarn again in a heart beat but just be more concious of what I knit with it.

ok. I got my yarn and did a test; Needle size US7 its fit perfectly when I knitted a sample, washed in warm wool detergent. surprisingly saw how yarn getting softer and fluffy, alpaca played a good role. Fazinnest look alike angora fluff came out. It looks more fuzziness which gives nice looks. The yarn its stryachi itself. The result: will be a great light top, spring sweater, fall. If you want for winter get a bulky yarn. Will be perfect for the cardigan.
