Sale! Shine Sport Yarn

$2.79 - $3.99 50g / ball  Original Price: $3.99

The touch of Modal® natural beech wood fiber gives the pima cotton a lustrous depth akin to silk, but without the cost or special care silk requires. The knit fabric is deliciously soft and smooth to the touch, with very little pilling. Enjoy the way Shine Sport reflects light from textured stitches and cables; also fine enough for two-color knitting. Its easy washability and long-wearing traits make it ideal for baby and kid knits. "Shine is a fluid four-ply yarn consisting of two relaxed two-ply strands plied together. It is composed of 60% super-soft Pima cotton (named for the Pima Indians of Arizona, who worked with USDA scientists breeding cotton on an experimental farm in Arizona in the early 1900s) and 40% modal, a fiber derived from beech wood chips. The modal adds a shiny, mercerized look to the cotton, and it also adds drape and durability to your finished fabric. Better yet, modal fiber tends to absorb humidity and let it evaporate quickly, making this an ideal warm-weather fiber.” Knitters Review, May 2005

I honestly would rate this yarn Excellent if it wasn't for the colours !!! The yarn is shiny, soft, barely splits or pills. I find it a bit heavy for a sport weight though, it might be closer to a DK. My biggest issue are the colours.. it feels like gambling to be honest. All of them came a bit darker and saturated than on the pictures and description but I had 2 colours that came totally different: Pistachio is more like a mix between Peapod and Macaw. I also ordered in Brava Bulky "Camel Heather" which is supposed to be a light brown / tan... well mine is dark brown !! I don't even like those 2 colours.. Anyway, quality is good, prices are great but I won't buy from Knitpicks anymore because of the colours! When I order a colour that is described as a "minty green" or "light brown" I like to get something close to the description....

I adore this yarn! I’m a midwife, and at long births I use this to make baby hats. They are soft, warm, and have a beautiful stitch definition, and are still stretchy and light enough for a newborn head. Plus they wear well without getting pilly. I’ve also used it for baby blankets and afghan squares that are the perfect weight and drape. Absolutely the buttery softest cozy fabric that keeps its quality over time. I always have a never ending supply of it in my bag!

This is one of my favorite yarns for baby knits. It is buttery smooth and soft. The colors are vibrant.

shine sport is a junk yarn. I tried making a baby blanket in a design I have made many times and it was a disaster. I started over 5 times and finally gave up and dumped all 10 balls in trash. Knit Picks in general is junk
