This jacket is knit from the topdown, in the round, then cut (yes, cut) at the center front before the border is added. This technique is called steeking, and it’s an exciting and tremendously convenient way to solve the problem of knitting in the round for garments that require an opening (such as jackets). You don’t need to be an “extreme knitter” to appreciate what a nifty technique steeking can be. Try this method and join the ranks of fearlessly intrepid knitters that have overcome the terror of cutting their knitting. There is no better way to achieve confidence and skill than by trying a new technique with every project.
