I'm currently knitting this scarf and the I-cord edging is built into the pattern, it's simply slip stitches followed by knit stitches which makes the edging. While the pattern is slightly tedious it looks really great knitted up. I would have to disagree that it's for an "expert" knitter. I think anyone with advanced beginner skills could knit this pattern easily. I don't like charts but feel that written directions for this pattern would actually be more irritating.

Updated Review: The I-cord edging is beautiful, but again, you have to look it up on the internet. Worth the time as it gives a smooth edge to the finished product. A purl ditch for this pattern is just two purl stitches, so that's pretty simple. You will want a cable needle here as you must cable on every row, RS and WS, but the pattern is only a repeat of 4, so it's easy to memorize. Note that the chart on the pattern shows all 50+ stitches in each row, and shows only the 4 rows needed to make the pattern. Works up slowly, but is gorgeous!

This is a charted pattern and not written out. If you don't knit from charts, you may struggle. The I-cord edging is not explained and neither is "purl ditch", You can find this information on the internet, and it would be an intermediate pattern with more written instruction, but as it is, this is really for an expert knitter.
