These thick slippers are perfect for keeping your feet toasty and warm on cold nights. You could wear them as slippers or as bed socks. The pattern shows you how to make modifications to fit wider or larger feet. The Chunky Slipper pattern is knit toe up, so you can try your slippers on as you knit to ensure a custom fit!

This pattern can be worked with Aran/heavy worsted weight yarn as well as bulky weight yarn, just make sure you are getting the proper gauge. Additional images show versions in Chroma Twist Bulky Weather Vane and Wool of the Andes Bulky Navy.

...just a thought: The 4 stitches which are held over are the very top of the slipper and will be incorporated in the ribbed cuff after the foot and heel are finished. However, the bind-off at the back of the heel finishes at the bottom of the foot and the yarn must be cut and the ends woven in (the pattern instructions do not mention this). The stitches you pick up and knit for the ribbed cuff begin at the middle back and are worked around the top of the slipper (incorporating those mysterious 4 stitches). These were fun to do!

I just downloaded this pattern and bought yarn for it this weekend to make for Christmas gifts. I do not understand this 4 pattern - what am I suppose to do with the 4 stitches. Can someone help me.

I have made the pattern. It was easy enough. The common complaint is about the 4 stitches from the instep that are put on a holder. These 4 stitches are picked up later as part of the Ribbed Border.

I read through the pattern but haven't made it yet. It looks like the four stitches on the holder are center top of the foot (instep) and are added to the ribbed border between the 15 pick up stitches on either side for a total of 34 stitches.

I have a pair of slip on Crocs that have a lining that always comes out when I'm ready to take off my shoes...these would be a great alternative and I'm anxious to make these to solve that problem, but I can't see my way clear to buy the yarn until I see some positive comments about the pattern/corrections.
