These mitts have a unique construction. A strip of four honeycomb cables becomes four finger holes by using separate strands of yarn as the cable strands separate, and a single strand as the cables come back to meet. When you put your fingers through you get the classic brass knuckles ? though it?s much safer when it?s done in wool.
Then, stitches are picked up all around the 4 sides of the rectangular strip, and the mitt is knit in the round down to the wrist. At the sides the honeycomb pattern is continued, so it runs seamlessly from the outer wrist edge, up the outside of the hand, over the hand (with the fingers poking through), and down the inside of the hand. The open cable is worked again to make the thumb hole.
This is worked in DK weight yarn to make the women?s size. For men's size, use worsted weight and use the same directions!
