Norah's Hidden Flower
One of my favorite designers is Norah Gaughan who still sets the benchmark for geometrical patterns and innovative knitwear design. “Twisted Stitch Sourcebook”, where she generously shared a wealth of stitch patterns, is a never ending source of inspiration for designers and knitters all over the world. The pattern stitch I am using is my own but it came to life after swatching and playing with some of Norah’s ideas.
Instructions are included for both a vest and sweater version of the pullover. The top is worked sideways and features hexagons achieved by the use of a combination of garter stitch, purl stitch and travelling knit stitches. The front and back panels feature sloped shoulders and are worked flat, with the front V-shaped neckline obtained by symmetrical decreases and increases. The front is shorter than the back and there are two options for the length of the vest/sweater. Once panels are completed, the shoulders and sides are seamed and the neckline is finished with a garter stitch band. For the sweater option, stitches are picked up after sewing the sides together and the sleeves are worked in the round on small circumference circular needles.
Stitch patterns instructions are given as chart only; no row by row written pattern is provided.
