Options Interchangeable Circular Knitting Needle Cables - Purple single pack

$1.99 - $1.99

The smooth cable join lets your stitches slide around your knitting needles with no snags while the long threaded join ensures that your cables and knitting needle tips stay securely in place.

Additionally, the flexible purple cable has very little memory so you can start knitting immediately. Simply unscrew the needle tips and screw on the cable caps to keep your knitting safe when your needle tips are required elsewhere. Lace knitters will love that they can tie a piece of scrap yarn through the tiny hole in the cable end (used for the tightening key) and thread a lifeline through their lacework at regular intervals while they are knitting.

Interchangeable needle tips are available in sizes US 4 (3.50mm) through US 17 (12.00mm). The Options Interchangeable Needle Set includes sizes US 4 (3.50mm) through US 11 (8.00mm) plus two each of the 24" and 32" cables in a handy flexible organizer. I like the needles, I just don't like the cables. The 24" size is simply too long for hats and I can't believe they haven't fixed this yet as I bought my set years ago. I came back online hoping they added a shorter size, but no. The needles are beautiful and the wood has the perfect slide when working but I make a lot of hats, a deal breaker. Also, there are issues with the joins as others have mentioned.

Love the interchangeable needles. Been using them for years. I just wish the size of the needle that's on the metal part of the tip was a little easier to see. I'm a senior citizen, 75 years old, and have difficulty seeing the number sometime.

I've had a Knitpicks interchangeable set for years and recently needed new cables. It's about a 50/50 shot whether or not my tips will be able to screw down and tighten onto the cables. About half my tips are so loose they'll fall right off the cables. I've also had a couple tips that wont even screw onto the cables. I'm right now looking for a replacement set since I can't rely on my Knitpicks set anymore.

I would give these cables an "excellent" but as others have written, they do come apart at the join with the metal screw on end over time. I have used my set for more than 18 years, for multiple projects and with multiple yarns. I ordered some extra cables and they too eventually came apart after a number of uses. However, I used just the tiniest bit of Super Glue on the plastic cable end, shoved it back into the metal end making sure not to have so much that the glue made a ridge, wiped it quickly with a paper towel and Eureka! They are working and holding just fine. In fact, I just finished the Three-Quarter Time lace shawl project on them with no problems. I am going to order some more of the purple because I love the flexibility and the fact they don't kink at all. I also like to combine lengths for bigger projects. And the birch needle tips are wonderful to use. The yarn glides over them and they aren't as slippery as the nickel plated brass (I do use those for "stickier" fibers). I have used the same Rainbow Wood set but have added some nickel tips to it. If the Sunstruck set was available when I first purchased these, I would have selected it because of the lighter colored wood. I have aging eyesight and the contrast between the lighter wood and yarn would sometimes be easier for me to see. But the Rainbow set has served me well. My set of interchangeables from KnitPicks are my "Go To" needles, both birch and metal, since at least 2000. They aren't perfect, but pretty darn close. And if put together properly work just fine. (I do try to remember to check the joins periodically as I knit and usually just a quick hand tighten does the trick. If I'm worried, I use the tool). And as with anything that you put constant weight and pressure on, it will eventually wear out. I have been able to repair mine satisfactorily, but intend to order some more of the purple cables to make sure I always have some on hand. And finally, you can't beat them for portability, 3-needle bind offs, regular bindoffs, making gauge swatches etc. A great product.

I got my interchangeable needle set years ago and the quality of the cables is noticeably worse lately. I bought a 47" cable at my LYS the other day and the threads were messed up so one end wouldn't screw into the needle. The cord is NOTICEABLY hard and plasticy compared to the old ones. I just went back to my LYS to get a non-defective one, but if i'd had to send it back in the mail I would've been very frustrated. Seriously, Knitpicks. I would pay $5-$10 for an improved no-memory cable and it would still be a bargain compared to ChiaGoo and Addi sets. These new cables are no better than the crappy cable needles you get at the craft store.
