Knit Stitch
The knit stitch is the most fundamental stitch in the history of this craft (and its namesake). Anything you can knit is made of knit stitches and purl stitches, so mastering the knit stitch means you are halfway there! In knitting patterns, you’ll often see the instructions for a knit stitch abbreviated as a k or K.
Step One
Begin by holding your working yarn (the end attached to the ball of yarn) in your right-hand, and insert the right-hand needle tip through the first stitch, from left to right.
Step Two
Wrap the yarn around the right-hand needle tip counter-clockwise.
Step Three
Pull the needle tip through the stitch you first entered, making sure to keep the yarn you just wrapped around the needle in place.
Step Four
Slide the worked stitch off of the left-hand needle. Your first knitted stitch will now be wrapped around your right-hand needle. You're done!
