FTCE Bag Pattern
FTCE = Felted Tunisian Crochet Entrelac
A sweet bag with a name more complicated than its construction. Tunisian crochet is a technique worth learning as it can be used in so many ways. The resulting fabric looks like a cross between crochet and knit and is thick and sturdy.
You need to have some Tunisian crochet experience in order to work this pattern, however I have provided some basic instruction for Tunisian Simple Stitch and entrelac crochet. Good basic instructions can be easily found on the internet and you may want to practice on a smaller sample to get the hang of it if you have never worked this style of crochet.
A note on felting: Normally felting/fulling is accomplished with a 100% wool yarn, however, the sample in this pattern was made using Knit Picks Chroma, a 75/25 wool/nylon blend which felts easily. The sample was lightly fulled in the washer with measurements of 14" x 14" before fulling and 12" x 12" after. You can use a corresponding size yarn and hook to achieve different sizes. The Block Layout included in the pattern can be used to create your own color scheme.
This bag would also be great using a smaller hook to make the fabric more dense and not fulled at all.
Color used in the sample is no longer available; we have made a similar color suggestion in the yarn calculator below.
