"Since I’ve discovered the joys of colorwork knitting, Palette has become my go-to yarn. It is softer than traditional colorwork wool, making it perfect for my itch-sensitive skin, but it’s still toothy enough to making stranding and steeking a breeze. Last fall I used it to make my first ever Fair Isle sweater, and this fall I’m hatching plans for lots of intricate two-color mittens."
-Melissa B., Knit Picks Art Director

"Palette is such a great yarn for stranded mittens.  It's really cozy and soft and available in some seriously amazing colors." -Ann Marie, Knit Picks customer

"Apparently, Knit Picks Palette is kind of awesome for knitting colorwork.  It's nice and sticky, and it blocks beautifully.  Did I mention that when placed over a hot air vent, it seemed to block in about an hour?  No?  Well it did!  This of course pleased me so very much!" -Marissa S., Knit Picks customer

“I just bought three of the Fair Isle totes sample packs, one of each color, and I can’t tell you how much I love them!!... The yarn is beautiful and soft, and knits like a dream. This is probably some of the best yarn I've ever knit with!!! I am sososososososo happy with this. Thank you so much for putting this pack together!!!!” April L., Knit Picks customer

This is my go to yarn for any stranded color, or fine gauge sweater. I've made 2 Alice Starmore patterns from this and the results are spectacular!!!!

I do t actually knit but I do tablet weaving. This yarn is basically the perfect thickness to tablet weave trim for garb, mostly used in Dark Age, Viking, and Anglo-Saxon reenactment. 12 four card tablets makes about a half inch wide band and maybe 2-3mm thick band.

I just tried this on elegant fingerless mitts. I adore this yarn. It was a dream to knit with, stitches were well defined, no knots and fairly soft. I’m hoping it will soften as it wears. I got so excited with this yarn I’m looking for a project just to use more of it!

I'm a designer and teacher of knitting, and have been around for more than 40 years in the business. I've been reading other reviews and some are accurate. This is definitely not a machine washable wool, and says so on the label. Choosing it for a pair of child's socks isn't very wise. I've been using sock yarns for my granddaughter's (by now) many jumpers. There are lots of other yarns, specifically superwash, and very much color fast. from which to choose. The other comments I see here that are negative I have found to be somewhat true, but once again, read the label before you buy. I did a search just now in as many yarn companies as I could from all over the world and no one beats Knit Picks Palette primarily on price. The closest I found was Cascade 220 fingering at more than double the price. Lang's fingering is also more than double, not to say these yarns are bad, simply from the same mills, the identical yarn at a huge margin for the seller and way over priced for the customer. Rowan used to have a similar yarn, LDK, which was the only yarn I have ever found, except here, that offered this glorious diversity of colour. With Kaffe Fassett's exit, LDK fell by the wayside. Fifteen years ago, the price was $5 for 100 yards. Count your blessings! and read the label.

I used Palette as my third strand along with two lace weight wools so I had to rewind it anyway in order to add it to the others. Easy to unwind. Lovely feel to it. Gives the lace weights a nice springy feel to the knitting. I will be using this again.
