Wool of the Andes Sport Yarn

$2.79 50g / ball

For the sweater you’ll wear a thousand times or the blanket you’ll use every night, our classic wool yarn is spun and plied carefully to achieve a wonderfully balanced twist. Spun from Peruvian wool, the strong fiber has an excellent balance of structure, loft, and drape that serves a wide variety of uses. Wonderfully warm for all weather, this sturdy, all-purpose yarn has excellent stitch definition and heirloom durability. It is ideal for cabled sweaters, textured stitch afghans, and every day accessories. While careful hand washing will keep your stitches crisp and sweaters long-lived, Wool of the Andes also felts beautifully with warm water and agitation, creating a fabric even more warm and durable than knitting alone.

Wool of the Andes Sport is a classic lightweight wool, adding more options to your wool palette. Finer gauge projects extend your knitting year into the shoulder seasons, making hats, mitts, and accessories or sweaters and garments that are perfect for the transitional weather of Spring and Fall. With the unsurpassed stitch definition of wool, this lighter weight is also excellent for accessible Fair Isle projects and other stranded colorwork.

Wool of the Andes is also available in Worsted and Bulky weights; the machine washable convenience of Superwash in Worsted and Superwash in Bulky; and the classic style of rustic Tweed.

This is a great yarn especially for the price. I will be knitting 4 sweaters for the kids this winter and needed a study, budget friendly, warm wool. This has hit all the marks. I see some mention of scratchiness and color bleeding. When blocking soak 30 min in a bath of water, vinegar and lanolin then rinse. Soft and no bleeding at all. Colors used: Baltic, Bramble, Mink, and Wonderland.

Great price. However, the picture of the colors is often off. I've ordered 3 colors (Blossom Heather, Thirst Heather and Dove Heather). Blossom is way pinkier in real life and Thirst is darker. Dove's picture is spot on. This yarn will give you great stitch definition, but it's kind of scratchy and rough.

This is a great yarn at a great price! As others have noted, sometimes the photo color does not match what the yarn actually looks like. What I've found to be helpful is if you have an account on Ravelry, I find the yarn there and look at the photos others have of that colorway. Those photos can give a better idea of the actual color.

The yarn itself is soft and lovely. I’m using it for a baby blanket and I think it’ll hold up nicely. However, I’m really unhappy with the color on the site compared to the actual yarn - mostly with the ‘solstice heather’ color. From the site, it looks like a lovely dark blue with bright overtones but the actual yarn actually looks black until you look at it up close. I hope it will lighten up when it’s next to lighter colors but I may have to search for a quick replacement locally as this is a quick project I need to finish.

I bought the pattern and yarn for the "Bistort Pullover," and ran out of the "25960 Thirst Heather wool of the Andes" on Row 35. I now have to order another skein of it. I'm hoping I don't run out of any other colors. I was also not to keen on how harsh the wool felt. I thought it would be much softer. I see one of the reviewers say, "I soaked in cold water and wow what a color bleed." I'm now worried about that with my sweater.
