Wool of the Andes Sport Yarn

$2.79 50g / ball

Our popular Wool of the Andes yarn is now available in sport weight, making it perfect for affordable projects at a finer gauge. A sturdy yet soft yarn with excellent stitch definition and heirloom durability. Peruvian sheep are a cross between Corriedale (for the sturdiness) and Merino (for the softness), producing a strong fiber with an excellent softness quotient for a wide variety of uses. Felts beautifully.

Great price. However, the picture of the colors is often off. I've ordered 3 colors (Blossom Heather, Thirst Heather and Dove Heather). Blossom is way pinkier in real life and Thirst is darker. Dove's picture is spot on. This yarn will give you great stitch definition, but it's kind of scratchy and rough.

This is a great yarn at a great price! As others have noted, sometimes the photo color does not match what the yarn actually looks like. What I've found to be helpful is if you have an account on Ravelry, I find the yarn there and look at the photos others have of that colorway. Those photos can give a better idea of the actual color.

The yarn itself is soft and lovely. I’m using it for a baby blanket and I think it’ll hold up nicely. However, I’m really unhappy with the color on the site compared to the actual yarn - mostly with the ‘solstice heather’ color. From the site, it looks like a lovely dark blue with bright overtones but the actual yarn actually looks black until you look at it up close. I hope it will lighten up when it’s next to lighter colors but I may have to search for a quick replacement locally as this is a quick project I need to finish.

I bought the pattern and yarn for the "Bistort Pullover," and ran out of the "25960 Thirst Heather wool of the Andes" on Row 35. I now have to order another skein of it. I'm hoping I don't run out of any other colors. I was also not to keen on how harsh the wool felt. I thought it would be much softer. I see one of the reviewers say, "I soaked in cold water and wow what a color bleed." I'm now worried about that with my sweater.

LISTEN UP PEOPLE!! If you search for BARE Wool of the Andes, you will find it by it's self, in 100 gram skeins, and it is your OFF WHITE color!!! I bought 6 skeins of it, and I adore knitting with it! I am now going to buy the 50 gram skeins in the other colors I want, and I will adore them as well! This yarn is affordable, and will fill your knitting needs. It will soften after washing, and will hold up very well! REMEMBER! You have to look for the BARE Wool of the Andes separately, but they DO have it! I love this yarn!!
