Norwegian Knitting Design
Finally back in print after decades, Norwegian Knitting Design holds a wealth of history, tradition and knowledge brought back to life by Annichen Sibbern Bohn (author of Selbuvotter: Biography of a Knitting Tradition). Traveling the Norwegian countryside in the early 20th century, Bohn was able to collect traditional folk patterns and designs that were quickly being left behind with changing times. Publishing this collection in 1929, a rich history of folk knitting was able to be passed on to future generations. Now back in print, this new publication contains all of the charts from Norwegian and English editions, plus two sweater and one cap patterns, in their original form. Bohn also give additional tips on substituting charts into existing patterns and designing new projects using the symbolic meanings of folk (and modern) motifs as a leaping-off point to guide today's artists creativity. Republishing these important works allows a piece of folk tradition to be passed onto a whole new generation of designers and crafts people, this book is sure to inspire today's craftspeople to come up with ways of incorporating these old patterns into modern designs in creative ways.
