Knits for Everybody Two!

$15.99 20% off
Retail: $19.99

A lot of patterns get shared around the Knit Picks office, and it might surprise you to hear that the most coveted are simple essentials that we can turn to time and time again. So, when we set out to make the original Knits for Everybody, our intention was simple: a handbook of basic patterns for the whole family. It worked out so well that we decided to do it again!

In Knits for Everybody Two, we expand our selection of easy, go-to patterns with a cardigan, v-neck pullover, gloves, and top-down hat. The sweaters feature a sizing-friendly top-down construction, with an easy-as-you-please circular yoke for the cardigan and raglan sleeves for the pullover. The glove pattern takes the mystery out of fingers and includes a practical fingerless variation ending at the first knuckle. The hat pattern offers a new top-down construction, allowing for fitting as you go and taking the guesswork and trepidation out of sizing, with optional earflaps for cold climate versatility.

With instructions for both fingering and worsted weights, as well as sizes from infant to men's XXL, enjoy even more simple, straight-forward designs that anybody can knit and everybody can wear!

I really like these patterns. I have yet to knit anything from this book, but I'm excited to wrap up my current project so I can get a new one from these patterns on my needles. ABOUT THE PATTERNS Most of the patterns in this book have blank spots where the stitch and row counts are. You have to look up in a chart in the book to get the stitch count for the size you are making. Other reviewers have complained about this, but I actually think it is really smart. I plan on photocopying the pattern I am knitting then writing in the numbers for my size. This way I can make notes without ruining my book. You have to remember that they are providing sizing information for up to 27 (27!) different sizes in 2 yarn weights. It just isn't practical to use the traditional parentheses approach. To me the real value of this book is sheer variety of sizes. THE BOOK ITSELF I love the photos and the way the patterns are laid out. I have to say though, I was a little disappointed in the size of the book. I was expecting something a little bit thicker. And maybe a little bit more general information about pattern fitting and progress pictures/diagrams. I still love it and I expect I will use it a lot as my kiddos grow. TO BEGINNERS I would not buy this as someone freshly new to knitting. This is NOT a book to learn from. This is where you go when you have mastered the basics (casting on, knit, purl, cast off) and can read a pattern unassisted. I think some of the patterns would be a little overwhelming if you didn't have those basics under your belt. PHOTOS I love the georgous photos, but I wish they labeled which were worsted and which were fingerling. A NOTE TO KNIT PICKS I would totally buy a bonus book that was just charts of different weighted yarn (lace, sport, DK, bulky, etc). Just saying.
