Knitting Yarn Meter

Have you ever lost the label on a ball of yarn and wondered just how much you have? Or maybe you wanted to substitute that mystery yarn but don't know if you have enough for your pattern? Here's a simple way to find out exactly what you have. You thread the yarn through the meter and run it through as you wind it up on your ball winder. It will give you an accurate count. It even helps control the twisting on ribbon yarns. You'll wonder how you got along without it!

It works. But be prepared to "calibrate" it for each type of yarn. I've been doing that by taking a known length (15 feet) and running it through the meter. I adjust the tension knob until I get an accurate measurement. My goal was to reduce waste OR limit the number of tie ons in a piece I am doing numerous times.
