Sale! Gloss Fingering Yarn

$4.89 - $6.29 50g / hank  Original Price: $6.99

Gloss elevates the indulgence of handknit socks to a whole new level. Soft, cushiony Merino blended with the sheen and velvety texture of silk makes the socks a solace for your feet. The way light magically plays off the silk begs for textured stitches ranging from lace to cables. Imagine incorporating the qualities of Gloss beyond socks into lace scarves and shawls. Warm and brilliantly colored with an elegant drape - an heirloom to be enjoyed for years.

"I wanted to let you know I completed a beautiful sweater using Gloss sock yarn... I think you might want to take the "sock" out of the title!  I used a #5 needle and knit at 5.5 st/in.  It crochets nicely too, and the resulting fabric is beautiful and very soft and drapey.  Just wanted to let you know!" I've ordered and used this yarn on two separate occasions and both times have been extremely pleased. It's a very dense fingering weight, more tightly plied than something like Stroll, so it feels thicker. The stitch definition is amazing and it responds well to unraveling and reknitting multiple times; it springs back to its original shape and does not pill, only fuzzes gently after the third or fourth time. My only (minor) disappointment has been with the colorway Blackberry; it's a gorgeous, rich purple but does not match the Blackberry of Gloss DK perfectly. They're very similar, but the fingering is paler and shinier while the DK is deeper in color. Other than that, I highly recommend.

I'm not sure why the woman returned this yarn because of breaks in her skeins... This is a problem of every yarn from every manufacturer. This is a really lovely yarn at an extraordinary price. I've bought a little in the past and will take full advantage of this month's sale when a little cash presents itself next week. This is a true quality fiber but only one thing... More colours please!

I made the Willow Cowl from Ravelry. The wool was perfect for it. It draped beautifully. I found no joins.

I am currently on my fourth of five shawls that I am knitting for my daughters bridesmaids in October. It is beautiful to knit. I haven't found any joins and I am on my 17th skein of Navy gloss fingering.

Pros - Produced a nice fabric with good stitch definition. The "gloss" aspect is very subtle - not shiny or sparkly but rather just enough to lift it from matte. Cons - I gave it a fair rating because in one skein there was an undyed strand of yarn that I had to cut off, as well as a thick join that I was worried would show too much on an otherwise smooth fabric. These resulted in having to join new yarn twice in one glove.
