Wool of the Andes Sport Yarn

$1.99 50g / ball

Our popular Wool of the Andes yarn is now available in sport weight, making it perfect for affordable projects at a finer gauge. A sturdy yet soft yarn with excellent stitch definition and heirloom durability. Peruvian sheep are a cross between Corriedale (for the sturdiness) and Merino (for the softness), producing a strong fiber with an excellent softness quotient for a wide variety of uses. Felts beautifully.

I have used this yarn f2f or two ponchos and am now making an Afghan with it. It is great yarn to work with

I am a little dissapointed with this yarn. From the description I was expecting a soft yarn but it is quite scratchy and I will not be able to wear it next to the skin. A shame as I bought it to make a scarf, not sure what I will do with it now.

I fell in love with your sport weight yarn. Knits up nicely and felts very quickly. Will be placing another order this a.m.

I used this double stranded for a crocheted corner to corner queen sized blanket in every shade of green, changing colours randomly and it is perfect. Usable even in summer here in Florida, warm enough it's the only one we use in winter. Am picking out more colours for another one now!

I love this thinner-weight 100% wool, please expand the color selection to match the worsted weight colors. There are so many more amazing colors available in the thicker version that I would love to see for lighterweight wool sweaters :D

love the variety of colors, great for felting or color work. But I do feel it's not really soft enough for anything worn close to the skin. It's ok, not rip-it-off-this-second-its-too-scratchy... but definitely "I wish this was softer" sour aftertaste.

The yarn feels great for the price!! I purchased the colors caution and semolina. The colors were more dull than I expected, though beautiful. I am exchanging colrs.

I absolutely LOVEWool of the Andes Sport! It is the perfect yarn for doing beautifully stranded work! I bought it as an alternate for Rowan Felted Tweed and I think that this is just as soft, durable, workable and wonderful, at less than half the cost! This way I can make two fair isle sweaters, plus a couple hats, for about the same price as just one.

Bought some of this yarn last year for a sleep sack for new born but did not use it. It felt scratchy in the skein. But wanted to make a feather and fan blanket for a baby and pulled it out of my stash. It knitted up great and was not scratchy once knitted. I really like this yarn and it knits up with a very nice texture. I was surprised at how much I liked knitting with it. The price is very reasonable and recently bought more for another blanket. Very nice yarn and good price for the quality.

I like the sport weight for a lighter, less bulky sweater, but also use a double strand for mittens, both regular mittens and felted. I have been making a lot more articles since I discovered KnitPicks, because the price is so reasonable. I only wish I had the same color selection in the sport weight that is available in the worsted weight.

I can't believe how nice this yarn is for the price! This was my first order from Knitpicks and I'm extremely satisfied. I ordered 3- 50 gram balls (one in each of three colors). By alternating background colors and designs, I made two sets of child mittens and two matching hats, all for about $12 including shipping! Very nice to work with and I found it quite soft, but not limp. Thank you!

I had to try this yarn because it is so much cheaper than even the cheapest wool at the yarn shop. To some degree, I got what I paid for. The yarn knits up nicely, but it is scratchy. Unfortunately, I bought the yarn for a baby blanket. I'm a little afraid it will irritate delicate skin. However, I am happy with the strength and the beautiful, bold colors. Now I must wait and see if it will it stand the test of time.

This yarn is lovely. It's warm and soft, and it felts perfectly. Highly recommend

Over the past 2 years, I have ordered over $600 of this yarn. Obviously, I like it very much. I use it mostly for felting and I find it is perfect. My only problem has been getting it quickly enough, but a small price to pay for something I enjoy this uch.

I love the colors available and plan to use three matching for one child's sweater.

I was really disappointed with this yarn -- from the reviews, I was expecting it to be fairly soft, but the balls I ordered are scratchy -- too scratchy to be comfortable for the cuff of a glove. I'm honestly not sure what I'm going to do to use it up. Wouldn't buy again, I'm afraid.

I am about to order this yarn for the fourth time. Made wonderful sweaters for the men in my life. It is a joy to work with, not a heavy yarn ,yet warm. The price is outstanding. I cannot say enough. Great yarn.

I bought this yarn on 3 separate occasions this year to make Christmas stockings for some friends grandchildren. I did a smallish order first as I was skeptical of the quality. After the first order, I placed 2 more orders. You can't beat it for the price and quality! For this particular project (making at least 15 stockings), I needed a ton of colors-I am impressed by the color range. I am sure I will be back for more!

I just finished some mittens with the dove heather and they are so comfy. The fiber is soft, but strong. Every time I wear them people tell me how much they love the color( even when they have mentioned it ten times already). I also have the sage brush which is beautiful as well.
