Wool of the Andes Bulky Yarn

$4.99 100g / hank

Wool of the Andes Bulky is a classic wool yarn spun and plied carefully to achieve a wonderfully balanced twist. A sturdy yet soft yarn that we love using to quickly knit up simple, comfortable sweaters. Dramatic stitch patterns and large cables are appealingly displayed with this yarn. Recommended for felting - felted projects are finished quickly and have a satisfying heft to them.

“Knit Picks- great yarn; great prices. I used Wool of the Andes for my Enchanted Forest Fingerless gloves and it is strong, the colors are vibrant, and the cost was low. I used 3 skeins for two gloves, and it cost me $2.19 per skein plus shipping- under $10!” www.zoescheffy.blogspot.com, February 2009

Wool of Andes (Bulky) taught me my love of wool. I have so many fond memories of knitting because of this yarn. It will forever have a special place in my heart! Lovely to knit, dramatic stitch and cable definition, and hardy. I've had a pair of mittens I made from it for 4 years now, and the cable is still clear as day.

LOVE this yarn!!!! This is my first time ordering from knit picks. Project is working up beautifully , however when I tried to unwind the hanks of yarn into a ball the yarn kept tangling. I put the hank into a circle and attempted to wind it. It still became tangled and took quite a while to u ravel. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to unwind the hank without getting aggravated??? I will be ordering from knit picks again.

I like this yarn, its super soft and knits up well. My only complaint is that this is a worsted weight yarn, NOT a bulky. It gets 11 wpi, i checked it twice. I wish they would correct that so other people don't buy it thinking its a bulky when its really a worsted.

I love this yarn. I think it's a bulky. I met gauge just fine on the bulky pattern I just finished making. After soaking and blocking, it is incredibly soft. I am extremely pleased with this yarn.

I was nervous about buying this yarn because it was my first time to order from knit picks. I have to say I'm very happy with the yarn and the price. I'm not sure why some people were saying the yarn didn't seem like a bulky to them but more of a worsted. I wanna know what type of worsted yarn they have been knitting with, this is definitely a bulky yarn. GREAT buy!!!

I definitely wouldn't call this a bulky yarn, disappointed about that. I purchased the Wallaby, expecting a grayish color, but it is more on the side of an olive drab/fatigue color. I understand colors show differently on each monitor. Luckily I like this color. I do like the yarn itself. It has a nice feel to it.

I like the yarn. The thing is its NOT bulky weight. Its the same as every worsted weight yarn I have ever bought. Although i like the yarn I am annoyed at being misled.

I love all the Wool of the Andes but I use this the most. I have only had one issue with color bleeding and that was on the beach glass, all the other colors I have used there was no issue. I have found a few join knots but nothing that bothers me. It is a great buy for your bulky projects.

This yarn is so awesome! I ordered Blackberry, Lumberjack and Stormy all of which are very soft in my opinion for wool. I can't wait to get more of this!

This yarn is great. Very easy to work with, and in a beautiful color. It felt a bit scratchy when I first started working with it, but it softened throughout the process, and after soaking and blocking, it's nice and soft. There were a knot per skein, which wasn't ideal, and the dye stained the surface I used for blocking, but overall these were minor issues, and I'd definitely buy this yarn again.

I've used about 15 hanks of this yarn, and it has continuously impressed me. My project felted wonderfully, and there was no color bleeding. I've used seven colors, and all were very close to the advertised color. I have only found one knot joining the yarn, which is great for the amount I've used. The size 11 needles were good for felting, but I would go down a couple sizes for non-felted projects (I prefer a tight knit). Overall, a great yarn at a great price.

Color is lovely and yarn works up really well. I would say it definitely is a bulky yarn, but it's not overly difficult to work with and still has good definition and drape. Love it!

I love this yarn. It knits up fast and its wool. The colors are beautiful and I find its nice against the skin. I've made sweaters and mitts from it and have never been disappointed. I use needle sizes 8 through 10 with it. I think you always check gauge with any pattern and change your needle size as appropriate for your project especially if you love the yarn! : ) I don't think you can go wrong for a warm sweater with this product. It's lovely.

The yarn itself is fine. It has a nice texture and the skein I bought (Wallaby) was the same colour as the picture. But, the thing is, this yarn is most definitely NOT bulky. It works better with size 7 or 8 needles, not 10 or 11. But besides that, it's lovely. (though I probably will have to return it, due to the fact it won't really work with my pattern)
