Shine Sport Yarn

$2.99 50g / ball

The touch of Modal® natural beech wood fiber gives the pima cotton a lustrous depth akin to silk, but without the cost or special care silk requires. The knit fabric is deliciously soft and smooth to the touch, with very little pilling. Enjoy the way Shine Sport reflects light from textured stitches and cables; also fine enough for two-color knitting. Its easy washability and long-wearing traits make it ideal for baby and kid knits.

"Shine is a fluid four-ply yarn consisting of two relaxed two-ply strands plied together. It is composed of 60% super-soft Pima cotton (named for the Pima Indians of Arizona, who worked with USDA scientists breeding cotton on an experimental farm in Arizona in the early 1900s) and 40% modal, a fiber derived from beech wood chips. The modal adds a shiny, mercerized look to the cotton, and it also adds drape and durability to your finished fabric. Better yet, modal fiber tends to absorb humidity and let it evaporate quickly, making this an ideal warm-weather fiber.” Knitters Review, May 2005

I just got my box in the mail yesterday and immediately started my project after I got it stashed on Ravelry. I bought severeal colors of this and several of Cotlin to use together and make a "granny stripe" crochet afghan for my bed. It's amazingly soft and the shine is beautiful. I think it balances very well with the Cotlin, which is a matte cotton yarn. The size of the skeins is perfect for my purpose (one skein completes 3 rows of the blanket) and there's a good selection of colors, although I would like to see some more shades of orange and yellow available.

I've used many KP yarns, but I just used this yarn for the first time. I made a popular cardigan on Ravelry in colorway Dandelion. It is stunning! So bright and cheery. The color is sooo saturated and deep. I've used craft store cotton before, and I vowed never to use it again as it really hurt my hands to knit with it. I was leery of ordering Shine for this reason, but, after reading all the reviews I decided to try it. I'm so glad I did! It is incredibly soft and silky while knitting. After washing, the yarn blooms and it softens even more somehow. The Beech Modal gives support to the cotton, so the cardigan doesn't stretch out after wearing all day. Bottom line: this yarn far exceeded my expectations and is a pleasure to knit with. I'll return for more! An incredible value for the price.

Wonderful. Knits cleanly and with a smooth, soft, almost silky feel. Knitting a tank top from a pattern purchased from Knitpicks as well. I can't wait to finish it and wear it. I will DEFINITELY be purchasing more of this yarn. If the quality of this yarn is indicative of the quality of the other yarns from Knitpicks, consider me a regular and happy customer. I'm in love. LOL

Lovely yarn but wish it came in 100 g balls so there was less joining!

Shine sport is the softest cotton yarn ever! It feels like velvet when it's knitted up. I wasn't expecting it to be so stretchy, but that works out well for the summer tunic I'm making. Will be using this again for all my summer projects

I just got this yarn 3 days ago and couldn't wait to get started. It's my first experience with it, and WOW, it knits up beautifully! I'm making a baby blanket, and it drapes so wonderfully. It's going to be a great gift.

I have used this yarn for several baby blankets as gifts. The yarn has held up remarkably well with the frequent washings needed with baby items. They also have stayed well blocked after washings, so the items keep their original shape and do not turn into a wrinkled ball of goop after one washing.

The quality and depth of color with Shine is wonderful. I didn't expect this Pima cotton yarn to be so luxurious, but the Modal truly makes this yarn wonderful. The colors are saturated and sophisticated. This yarn would make wonderful baby gifts to suit modern parent's tastes as well as great summertime wraps. I can't wait to order more!

I started my next project the day I got this yarn. Wow, I am in love! I am crocheting a baby afghan for my sister in law and this yarn was the perfect choice! So soft, and so easy to crochet with and it adds some great stretch and drape to the blanket. I will be us using this for all of my baby garments from here on out! I hope it doesn't discontinue for a long time!

My favorite yarn by far! The texture has a perfect feel. I especially love this yarn for lace pattern scarves, but I have created cowls and baby blankets as well. Lovely color choices.

I love this yarn! Extremely soft and a bit stretchier than straight cotton. Really lovely to work with, I just wish there were more colors (30's not enough ;) )

Love Shine Sport. I've made two infant top/dresses with it and they turned out beautifully soft with a lovely sheen. I could swear the yarn made my hands soft as I knitted.
