CotLin DK Yarn

$2.99 50g / ball

CotLin is a cool and lightweight Tanguis cotton and summer linen blend perfect for washcloths and spa gifts and summer knits for children and adults. Tanguis (tan-gwiss) cotton has a very soft hand, excellent absorption and, because it is a naturally white fiber, a high affinity for dyes. The Belgian linen adds the characteristic flecks and additional absorbency with very low elasticity - helping to alleviate stretching in the finished knit. Summer linen has an extended growing period which results in a longer, stronger fiber. When blended with the already strong Tanguis cotton, it makes a durable, wearable, and soft yarn. The knit fabric will get softer with each wash too.

“The yarn is soft and knits up very well- a Knit Picks winner.” Obsessed with Knitting

"My favourite yarn (so far) is the Cotlin Yarn. I knit sets of seven baby wash cloths and/or bibs (one for each day of the week) and my family, my friends and friends of family and friends of friends just rave over how soft the washcloths are and the fact that these items stay soft even after several washes in the machine. Last year I knit for 6 babies and this year already I have to knit for two expectant mums. I also love the fact that Cotlin is economical in price. I can knit two and a half baby wash cloths with just one ball. The colours are bright and exciting as well. Well done KnitPicks!" lookakookaburra, Knitting Community Member

What a revelation this whole site has been. The CotLin yarns are so pleasant to work with that I have bought nearly every colour, twice over. I wholly recommend and am very grateful for the free " dishie" patterns which work perfectly like little gems which sparkle on my shelves and make perfect gifts so they sparkle there too. It is like an instant reward project to make small but unique jewels. The feeling of accomplishment is priceless. The Free Shipping has been a bonus to me living way away in Australia..the yarn and tools arrive so quickly. Thank you. Even the Errata pages have been attended to brilliantly!

I needed to make some spa/guest hand towels for the guest bathroom, and I wanted to use something a little nicer than the Sugar and Cream or Peaches and Creme cotton yarns that I had been using to make kitchen towels and dishcloths with. I bought some Cotlin during a sale and my what nice hand /face towels it makes! They're very soft with a nice drape and feel... delicate looking, yet strong. The colors and fabric stand up to frequent machine washing/drying and feel softer and more luxurious each time they're laundered. I do wash them on the gentle cycle, separate from the other terry towels, and there hasn't been any pilling or fading to speak of. I can see myself making lightweight sweaters, shawls, and even soft spring blankets with this yarn at some point.

Love this! For a cotton yarn, it's very soft and easy to work with. I made a pineapple backpack and used 6 colors for it. Worked GREAT! I get compliments on it all the time. Color representation is also fantastic, very vibrant. Will purchase again!

Ordered a few skeins to make a chevron hand towel. This yarn is SOOO NIIICE that I didn't want to stop knitting. I made a few wash cloths from the scraps, then went back and ordered more skeins. It knits up very soft and squishy, with a great hand. It even smells good. I see a garment with this yarn in my future.

The yarn seems nice to touch, but I was really disappointed by the colors in real life, as compared to the pictures. I was trying to get a rainbow of colors, but the colors I received will not work at all. I am not sure if I want to deal with returning/exchanging and losing money to pay for return charges when I feel like the colors aren't represented well.

I just love this cotton. I have made many sweaters with it, it knits beautifully, shows off the lace stitches and cables perfectly. I do not find it scratchy at all. Will be purchasing some black shortly, once I finish the cashew one I am working on.

I've used CotLin in several of my colorwork knitting pattern designs for toddlers, one an argyle toddler vest and another an aster flower vest. While the gauge is nice for detailed work, I particularly like the softness of the yarn and the stability of the colors when washed. I hand washed the completed vests in cold water, and color running was not a problem for the most part - the only color that ran just a bit was the Moroccan Red. I felt that stretching was minimal too, and the palette is wonderful. I will continue to design around Cotlin!

For the price and wonderful color variety, you just can't beat this yarn for a cotton linen blend. I've made 2 tanks out of this, one a long, swinging tunic type with lacy edges; and the second a shorter fitted sexy tank. Both came out wonderful, do not feel scratchy to me at all, and after 3 years have no pilling at all. (granted, I don't wear either much so they haven't been through a lot of washing, so I guess time will tell, but so far so good). I would use this yarn again in a heartbeat, just know that it is a workhorse yarn, great for casual projects that still need to look great, and have fabulous colors.

This is the only cotton yarn I like to use. Most cotton yarns are so stiff and the yarn sticks to itself and makes for very uneven tension. The tension on this works up beautifully. I like to make washcloths with it like many of the other reviewers and I get so many compliments on them. The yarn does have a few stiff linen (I'm assuming) fibers throughout, but I just pull them off if they seem like they're going to stick out or feel unpleasant.

Love this yarn. I have used it for shawls, vests, sweaters, and just about anything else. I knits up easily, and creates a beautiful fabric, with well-defined stitches. The colors are also wonderful to work with. I hand wash the fabric and then block, and have had no problems with stretching or pilling.

I highly recommend this yarn! So far, I have only knitted dishcloths with it. I have several for my self, and have gifted several for family and friends -- they all agree with me that it is their favorite dishcloth, and love that it dries so quickly. ...and did you know that linen is antibacterial, so the cloth does not get that dingy or mildewy smell like most discolored! I just ordered 10 more skeins! You'll love this yarn!!

Love this yarn for baby blankets. Soft, pliable, strong and washable. I've kept coming back time after time, and it knits and crochets beautifully, and very smooth. Love it. And, knitpicks ships FAST. Near instant gratification.

I love this yarn. I made a light sweater and it feels wonderful. It knits beautifully. Definitely will purchase more.

I have used this yarn, doubled, to make at least a dozen baby bibs. The reviews came back very positive. The yarn softens with washing and does a great job of containing the "mess."

I find this to be a really nice yarn to knit with. There a few tiny hairs on strands occasionally, but very minute. Also, this yarn does not split as have some cotton yarns I have used.

I made a dish cloth with Cotlin and I found it to sturdy, quick drying, and a delight to use.

I really don't see the scratchiness that other people have commented on. I've made the Repose hooded tunic with it (Pattern available on knitpicks as well) and it is so comfortable, soft, and surprisingly warm. Great for winter in South Texas. Which means spring or fall for anywhere north. Gotten several requests to make the sweater for others.

I've had Cotlin in my stash for awhile. I just made a double knitted potholder with two colors and absolutely love this cotton yarn. It's my new favorite for dishcloths and potholders. It's so much better than the cotton I buy in the local stores. Cotlin did not have all those little loose fuzzies that have to be pulled off....very clean smooth yarn.

I used two strands of linen and one strand of cashew to make a rug. It turned out great.

I am just about finished with a lovely pullover sweater in Whisker. The stitch definition is great and I am using a fishtail lace stick on the hem and cuffs. The cotton/linen iron outs beautifully for nice flat lace edges. I am in love with this yarn.

As Barbara said earlier, this yarn is beautiful but a bit scratchy. It is not real scratchy to the touch, but it is there. I first bought it as a test yarn for a baby washcloth but after using it on myself before giving it away, I realized it was not good for babies but great for adults who like their washcloths to really clean. In fact, we love it so much that my whole family is addicted to them. I crochet them with a open design so they dry out faster. I realize some adults prefer soft washcloths and this might not be for you, but for us, we LOVE this yarn!!!!

I'm surprised that so many people love this yarn. The top I knit is beautiful but very scratchy against the skin. I've tried washing it several times, including with fabric softener, but nothing seems to help. If your skin is at all sensitive, I'd avoid this yarn.

Surprisingly soft, but without fuzzing or fraying! There's the odd tough fibre but I just pull those out. My only qualm was the nasty join toward the end of the ball, but Knitpicks can only work so much magic. ;P I'm just happy to have more pleasing vegan yarn options than simply nylon and other synthetics! Hooray!

Love love love this! The linen fibers give the cotton interesting character and the colors are great!

I have just started a project with this yarn. So far I like the feel of the fabric it makes, and the slight heathered look of the black fibers included BUT some of those black fibers stick out of the yarn and some of the protruders are stiff and seem like they might be scratchy. Can't tell till I'm done, but perhaps they soften with the first wash or block.

I had been wanting to try Cotlin for awhile, so I have made a summer top for my granddaughter. Cotlin is such a wonderful, soft, summery yarn that I will use it again. In fact, I have ordered enough for a sweater for myself. I have just purchased a rigid heddle loom, and I think that Cotlin could be a good option for weaving as well as knitting.

I bought this yarn a few years back and didn't leave a review, but thought I would since I loved it. Better late than never, right? I used it to crochet a little granny square halter top for my daughter and it turned out beautifully. I've kind of horded the leftover yarn waiting for just the right project. I used some of it to make a little potholder to set my teapot on. Very durable yarn, washes well. It was my first experience buying from KnitPicks and I was very satisfied. I ran across the site while trying to find affordable DK cotton yarn which seemed pretty near impossible. So glad I found this company and will definitely order again.

I bought Cotlin for the first time and I'm in love!!! I just love, love, love this fiber. I bought Canary (it's not as bright yellow as the pic shows but then again every monitor color setting is different) Canary is more of a yellow/gold color and GORGEOUS!! I also bought Planetarium and love the color. It's not splitty and no fuzz . I just love working with it and most definitely buy it again .I wish they would come up with either Sport weight or Worsted in Cotlin.

Beautiful yarn and KnitPicks delivered very fast. The colors are true to the pictures. My one note on the yarn might be that the crochet hook size is officially "I", which leads to big spaces in double (british treble) crochet. I got about 3 inches into a blanket and realized I just couldn't stand it. I had to rip it all out and start over with an HH hook, which closed up the spaces. So it's which one you prefer, but I think the recommended hook size is a bit off.

I love this yarn for band weaving and rigid heddle weaving. It makes a soft absorbent fabric that is very easy care. I've used for everything from trim for garments to table runners. The colors I've ordered have always been bright and beautiful.

I would love to see this in a worsted weight, too. I have many sweater patterns that call for worsted yarn and this would be perfect.

I love this yarn for making my granddaughters dresses. they can be thrown in the wash and dryer and come out just as if they were just knitted. Very durable and stand up to the wear and tear of a 2 and 4 year old.

LOVE this yarn. I usually double it (one or two colors), using it for bibs and baby throws. Washes up beautifully.

The "Tomato" I ordered is gorgeous - absolutely as pictured. The next project will be "Harbour."

This yarn makes super duper washcloths using size 5 needle, sometimes a 4 depending on pattern. (Sts must be close for washcloths) I love to make them about 8" by 8". Use that to see what color really is. Then I give them away for gifts. I have lots of tops made from this after I have chosen color. Love those tops too. So gals and guys, it is a good yarn for the price and the colors are wonderful! And, you get a lovely supply of washcloths for yourself or as gifts. One skein will make 2 washcloths too..

I love this yarn. I've made lace curtains, tablerunners and now a jacket with this yarn. I've never had a color be off from the photos but in all fairness I tend towards fairly neutral colors.

One of my favorite yarns. I find the color swatch very accurate - never had a problem with photo. Love the finished object's feel and luxuriousness.

This yarn is a very nice weight that can be used in many projects. The only problem I have is with the description of the colors listed. I ordered "conch" described as a pink orange color but what I received in a dark orange. The other color I ordered is supposed to be a seafoam color but is darker, more like a turquoise. Shipping is always fast, and customer service great.

Was super excited to finally get my order in the mail because I was drooling over the colour conch, but super disappointed when I opened the box to discover that the vibrant coral colour as described/displayed was a dirty muted orange colour!
