City Tweed DK Yarn

$4.99 50g / ball

This yarn begins with alpaca and Merino fibers dyed two different colors and then blended together to make a subtle rich, lustrous heather. We chose neutral color Donegal tweed neps to incorporate into the 2-ply yarn. Donegal is a series of viscose neps (think slubs or bits of lint) that are suspended in a very fine acrylic mesh which allows them to be spun alongside the longer alpaca and Merino fibers. In the yarn, you won’t be able to see the acrylic web at all, and the neps will appear either on the surface of the yarn or spun inside the yarn strand. The high ratio of neps gives City Tweed a traditional appeal. The use of Merino and alpaca makes it soft and warm. This weight is gorgeous in two-color knitting.

"City Tweed is definitely the softest tweed I've ever knit with.  And springy! And pretty! It's particularly lovely in garter stitch as well."- Allyson, Knit Picks customer

"The City Tweed colors are so fantastic and the yarn is a pleasure to knit with! I just finished making a cardigan with the plum wine color and I already have plans to use it again!" -Meghann, Knit Picks customer

The yarn worked up beautifully with a solid stitch definition between 8 stitches of stockinette alternating with 8 stitches of reverse stockinette. There were no visual gaps after blocking between the stockinette and the reverse. The touch of the wool is soft, with a good drape.

Loving this yarn. So soft. Such a pleasure to work with. I'll have to buy some more. The sweater I'm knitting using Kitten is coming out really well. So pleased.

I LOVE this yarn. I've worked with this DK and the Aran and they're both wonderful. It drapes beautifully. It's super squishy and just soft and wonderful. It has a mild little halo but its not fuzzy to the point that it sheds. It's the perfect tweed yarn!

Ive made 2 sweaters for myself and a lovely cabled shrug I sold on etsy from this yarn now and I love it more and more every day! It splits a bit if you arent careful on sz 3 or smaller needles but it isnt a major issue and I havent had an issue at all on sz 6 needles. I really wish knitpicks offered a tweed yarn in a superwash tho!

City Tweed is a yarn I am always coming back to. My grandson has fallen in love with alpaca and, quite frankly, who wouldn't! It knit up with such ease and the colors are so earthy. It definitely is my go to yarn, over and over!!

No doubt, I LOVE this yarn! It's soft and wonderful to knit, and the resulting fabric drapes beautifully. It's now my first go-to yarn when planning a project. The only thing that would make it perfect would be to make it machine washable.

Wonderful yarn to knit with!! I made my Mom a set of fingerless gloves and a matching hat with it. Worked up beautifully. Excellent quality. I will definitely be using this again!!

Absolutely delicious to work with! I was worried that it would be scratchy like all the other tweed yarns I've seen but it's not at all! It's soft and plus, with a nice spring and great feel as you crochet with it. Purchased several skeins to make a shawl and all I can do is pet it. It's simply lovely.

I used this yarn to translate a simple knitted sweater pattern into a Tunisian crochet pattern. Not only is the sweater beautiful, it is also soft and light weight with a halo effect. I love it. I also have used the Rowan counterpart, which is wonderful yarn, but the knitpicks product is softer with better drape.

This is honestly one of my FAVORITE yarns. I love the texture that it can add to an otherwise simple stitch pattern, and while I purchased it to make boy/man items, I love it for myself as well. Its SO smooth on the needles and fingers, and super squishy and warm.

I'm loving this yarn more and more as I work it into a sweater. The Basil color is gorgeous, the tweed just seems to fit a Celtic cabled cardigan, the yarn is so soft and works up well.

I am not a huge fan of tweed but I purchased some of this yarn to felt with. When it arrived I was so gobsmacked by its beauty, sheen and softness that I didn't have the heart to work it into a felt item rather I worked it into a lovely simple lace scarf and even purchased more.

This yarn is absolutely lovely. I purchased it as a substitution for the discontinued Rowan Scottish Tweed - same gauge and amount, a cables sock pattern. I used the color Tahitian Pearl - it's just a LITTLE darker than the photo here on the site, But it's the perfect shade of gray for these socks. The flecks are beautiful - cream and black. Also, this yarn is SO soft and cozy. Am planning on making more socks with this yarn, this time for myself!

Nice yarn with enough twist to make it a pleasure to work with. Some nice colours, too.

I'm surprised there aren't any reviews for this awesome yarn. I have worked with both the DK weight and the Aran weight and really love it. I is soft, squisy, and not too splity. The fabric that is created is lovely. The colors are terrific. It does have a bit of a halo but that is the charm of the alpaca. This would be a top choice for me with any tweed project. One word - I have used the Romance color and it does rub off a bit. I would imagine it might bleed in the wash some, so I would color test it before attempting colorwork with it.
