City Tweed Aran/HW Yarn

$7.99 100g / ball  Original Price: $9.99

This yarn begins with alpaca and Merino fibers dyed two different colors and then blended together to make a subtle rich, lustrous heather. We chose neutral color Donegal tweed neps to incorporate into the 2-ply yarn. Donegal is a series of viscose neps (think slubs or bits of lint) that are suspended in a very fine acrylic mesh which allows them to be spun alongside the longer alpaca and Merino fibers. In the yarn, you won’t be able to see the acrylic web at all, and the neps will appear either on the surface of the yarn or spun inside the yarn strand. The high ratio of neps gives City Tweed a traditional appeal. The use of Merino and alpaca makes it soft and warm. Retail: $9.99

"This yarn is wonderful!!!  While it looks rustic, hardy and rugged, it feels like a little bit of heaven.  It was a pleasure to knit with and I will definitely be ordering more." -Fran, Knit Picks customer

Beautiful yarn

I can't say enough good about this yarn! I've been using it for the last few years to make cable knit fingerless mitts that I sell online, locally and at craft fairs. My customer base can't get enough of it! It is soft and warm and has perfect stitch definition. The colors are gorgeous. Every color, every time. I love the flecks of Tweed throughout. It glides along my Knit Picks Rosewood needles like a dream with no splits ever. Every skein is always perfectly wound with no knots and no pieces tied together. I have purchased a lot of this yarn at this point and will keep coming back for more. It also has great yardage. By combining two complimentary colors I can get three pairs of mitts from two skeins of yarn.

I have this yarn in several colors and love it. I just recently ordered the Morning Glory colorway. Sometimes if I look at it just the right way it looks like the pic but mostly it looks darker, which I happen to like even better then the pic! All the other colors I have match the pic for this yarn. I also love the softness of this yarn. It works up beautifully.

This yarn feels beautiful, I can't wait to knit it. I bought Cobalt and Brocade, during the big sale this year. I bought enough Cobalt to knit a sweater, and I still will, but-- the color was quite a bit more purple than I expected, or the name implies. (I know it reads blue-violet in the description, but I wasn't expecting almost periwinkle!) Brocade was quite true to color, a nice jewel-toned slightly-lightened-eggplant. I was planning a traditional cabled Aran Sweater, and I don't know how I will feel about it being solo purple. That might be a little wild. But perhaps I'll find a more understated pattern that fits the bill.

I love this yarn! It is the perfect weight for beanies I make. It is hard to find yarn in the right weight -- not bulky, but thicker than DK or worsted. Please please add more colors!! -- I can't believe there is no shade of brown at all, as I expect it would be popular in this rustic looking yarn.

I made a cardigan which is fine. It holds it's shape, is soft, washes well, great color. But it pills pretty badly. As bad as anything I have ever made. I really don't like pills, so I don't wear it anymore.

Colour received not as pictured so therefore had to changed project that I had in mind for this yarn BUT this yarn is awesome. Instead of making the anticipated jumper for myself, I have knitted a pair of wellington boot socks for my husband, who loves the colour. This yarn is lovely and soft to feel, incredibly easy to knit with and washes well. No knots in the yarn ball or skein which is a treat and consistency in yarn ply throughout. It has great definition for cables and the the slubs are very attractive. I will definitely be purchasing more at a latter stage. Thank you for supplying such wonderful yarn at a reasonable price.

This is probably my favorite yarn; however, if you want the Jacquard color and it looks like a beautiful vibrant blue to you, it is not. Knowing that it could be an issue with my computer monitor, I did check and additional laptop and tablet. I have ordered this yarn and MANY others from Knit Picks and have NEVER had a color issue until now. The color is more to the green side. Unfortunately I was only 17 rows away from a completed lace scarf for a friend before I happen to see the picture of the yarn on their site. When I e-mailed Knit Picks, I was told that their monitor showed the correct color and it must be my issue.

I made my mom fingerless mitts and a cowl from this yarn and she loves them. She gets compliments whenever she wears them. I'd love to see more colors.

This is my favorite yarn. I'm normally very sensitive to yarns made with any amount of wool, but for some reason, this yarn works for me. It knits up beautifully. The Colbalt color is fabulous. I've make two Central Park hoodies and will start on a classic Aran sweater next. Highly recommended!

This is some of the best yarn I've ever had on my needles! Super-soft, perfect heft, no splits. I only wish the HW/Aran came in as many colors as the DK.

I loved this stuff, super soft super pretty, been wearing my projects for a year now, and no major issues, low pilling, and still super soft love it!

One of the softest yarns I have ever knit with. Fluffs up beautifully when blocked. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this yarn. Would love to see the HW in as many colors as the DK. Please I would cry if you discontinued this yarn. Dont do it.

I absolutely love this yarn! It is so very soft and is really warm and cozy. The color is beautiful, too. I love the weight and am currently using it to make mittens, but I will definitely buy more to make a matching hat and scarf, and a few more pairs of mittens. I'd love to see more colors offered.

This yarn is amazing! It' knits up very nicely. Very soft and squishy. Made an afghan with it and know that my family will feel warm and comfy wrapped in it.

I usually love all of the yarns I have purchased from KnitPicks, but this one is not one I will order again. I found that the slubs to create the tweed came off easily, almost like the scarf was pilling. When I wore the scarf, people kept trying to pick off the "fuzz", which came off quite easily. The colors I ordered are quite lovely, however, so I will mix them in with other yarns so the slubs are not so noticeable.

I LOVE this yarn, its so soft and knits up so easy, no splitting, great stitch definition. I wear a short scarf around my neck, and it doesn't feel like wool at all, just soft and so very warm. I too wish there were more colors, as there are in the dk weight. I love making mittens, scarves and hats from this! More colors please!

I have made several pair of gloves and flip-mitts of this yarn for friends and family members. It is much warmer than any other wool I have used. Amazingly it softens up with use so much that it is hard to believe it is wool. I love this yarn and wish there were more colors. I will keep using it so please don't discontinue it?

I Love this yarn. My favorite to work with. I knit stuffed animals and this yarn is perfect, it's incredibly soft and beautiful. The texture is rich and rustic. The heavy weight is ideal. I only wish the color options were as many as the worsted. I hope to be a customer of this yarn for a very long time... as long as it is available.

This yarn is by far one of the nicest yarns I've ever worked with! I made the Chevrons Pullover for my daughter and it is so soft and warm...she loves it! I even purchased the buttons shown in the pattern...they are called Links. Perfect fit and a very quick knit! I will make this again in another color!

City Tweed may look rugged, but it feels lovely on sensitive skin. In January, while the rest of me is still trying to warm up in the car on the way to work, my head and neck are toasty in their City Tweed. Maybe it's time for a City Tweed sweater.

Gorgeous super soft quality yarn! Rich beautiful colors! Looks like tweed and feels like Alpaca!
