City Tweed Aran/HW Yarn

$9.99 100g / ball

This yarn begins with alpaca and Merino fibers dyed two different colors and then blended together to make a subtle rich, lustrous heather. We chose neutral color Donegal tweed neps to incorporate into the 2-ply yarn. Donegal is a series of viscose neps (think slubs or bits of lint) that are suspended in a very fine acrylic mesh which allows them to be spun alongside the longer alpaca and Merino fibers. In the yarn, you won’t be able to see the acrylic web at all, and the neps will appear either on the surface of the yarn or spun inside the yarn strand. The high ratio of neps gives City Tweed a traditional appeal. The use of Merino and alpaca makes it soft and warm.

"This yarn is wonderful!!!  While it looks rustic, hardy and rugged, it feels like a little bit of heaven.  It was a pleasure to knit with and I will definitely be ordering more." -Fran, Knit Picks customer

This yarn is amazing! It' knits up very nicely. Very soft and squishy. Made an afghan with it and know that my family will feel warm and comfy wrapped in it.

I usually love all of the yarns I have purchased from KnitPicks, but this one is not one I will order again. I found that the slubs to create the tweed came off easily, almost like the scarf was pilling. When I wore the scarf, people kept trying to pick off the "fuzz", which came off quite easily. The colors I ordered are quite lovely, however, so I will mix them in with other yarns so the slubs are not so noticeable.

I LOVE this yarn, its so soft and knits up so easy, no splitting, great stitch definition. I wear a short scarf around my neck, and it doesn't feel like wool at all, just soft and so very warm. I too wish there were more colors, as there are in the dk weight. I love making mittens, scarves and hats from this! More colors please!

I have made several pair of gloves and flip-mitts of this yarn for friends and family members. It is much warmer than any other wool I have used. Amazingly it softens up with use so much that it is hard to believe it is wool. I love this yarn and wish there were more colors. I will keep using it so please don't discontinue it?

I Love this yarn. My favorite to work with. I knit stuffed animals and this yarn is perfect, it's incredibly soft and beautiful. The texture is rich and rustic. The heavy weight is ideal. I only wish the color options were as many as the worsted. I hope to be a customer of this yarn for a very long time... as long as it is available.

This yarn is by far one of the nicest yarns I've ever worked with! I made the Chevrons Pullover for my daughter and it is so soft and warm...she loves it! I even purchased the buttons shown in the pattern...they are called Links. Perfect fit and a very quick knit! I will make this again in another color!

City Tweed may look rugged, but it feels lovely on sensitive skin. In January, while the rest of me is still trying to warm up in the car on the way to work, my head and neck are toasty in their City Tweed. Maybe it's time for a City Tweed sweater.
