Chroma Fingering Yarn

$5.00 - $9.99 100g / ball  Original Price: $9.99

No matter your taste in colors, we have a rainbow waiting for you! Chroma is our new color-transitioning 70% wool and 30% nylon blend yarn. Pair the brightest colors with your boldest projects, or choose a subdued shade for gentle waves of changing color. The colors move gently through a single ply, creating subtly blended and shaded sections. Chroma is a single ply yarn that has subtle differences in thickness that gives a handspun look to your finished projects.

You can also purchase four solid colorways - Bare, Bittersweet, Grey, and Black. They pair beautifully with the multicolor shades for great Faux Isle and striped projects.

Also available in worsted weight.

For Chroma fans, please note that new colors now features a mirrored repeat instead of sequential.

"I used Knit Picks' Chroma fingering to make a beautiful entrelec scarf.  The yarn is soft and smooth and very easy to work with.  I highly recommend it and will be buying more!" -Melissa, Knit Picks customer

This yarn has lovely, long color changes, and even though I am not fond of single ply, it wasn't too bad to work with in making socks. (#0 needles) Very soft, knits up well, and feels wonderful on one's feet. However, I am VERY unhappy to hear that the new colors have mirrored repeats instead of cyclical. (I designed a sock specifically to take advantage of the cyclical repeat!)

While I love the colors available in this yarn, and it is soft, I really don't like all the "fluff" on it. It's not nearly as easy to work with as the Stroll yarn is. (I wish there were some of the same colors in the Stroll as in this yarn) I think that I did run into the knot problem on one skein (so far) while making socks with it, and actually wasted a good bit of the yarn from having to go further into the skein to get to the same color repeat to retie it and resume knitting. (very annoying) I haven't had a problem with the fingering yarn thickness varying much, but in the worsted it was a bit of a problem. I came across places where it would be very thick and fluffy then go very thin and threadlike. I don't mind yarn that has thicker and thinner areas, but some of these were terrible.

I do enjoy this yarn, and would rate it excellent for the slight shortcomings I've encountered. I don't mind knots that much, I find I can usually fix them with a Russian join (and since this yarn felts so easily it's a very secure join). I do object to the knot joining a completely different color. I've used both the fingering (more consistent in the thick/thin department than the worsted) and the worsted. I wonder if the yarn being so very soft is part of why the thin/thick is so pronounced in the worsted. Anyway. I add my voice to the chorus of bring back the old colors. PLEASE!!! I wasn't able to afford to get as much of the New England I I needed for a sweater. I see the Vermont but don't think it's close enough to even use for sleeves or cuffs and collar... ;( Please give us 'yarn money poor' folks another crack at the old colors.

I absolutely love working with this yarn! The thick/thin aspect can be a little inconsistent between skeins (the previous ball I was working with was very nice, the current ball is a bit more drastic, almost lace weight in spots) but it's not a deal breaker. I'm sad to see my favorite colorways (lollipop!) go, and I'm reserving judgement on the mirrored repeats vs sequential. I guess I'll just have to buy more yarn and see.

I made several pairs of fingerless mitts with this yarn and absolutely love it! The colors I used were in the blues and greens family...the gradient colors made them perfect for the mitts. I am so glad to see brighter colors. I did have to "waste" some of the yarn to re-knot to continue the color, but it was not enough to deter me from buying this over and over.

If this yarn doesn't demonstrate the wild variety among knitters I don't know what would! The reviews show that. I love the color changes and I'm in the Chroma is soft group, but I found it maddening to use due to its roving-like lack of twist - it splits like crazy. Produces a very fuzzy fabric, a plus in some cases. I don't think I'll want to use it again but I've got 2 more balls of fingering and 3 of worsted to get rid of!

Bring back Lollipop! I love the shading on the yarn, but did find that the twist on the yarn is not real tight, and did give the feeling of roving. However, the mittens I made came out beautiful, and I am currently working on the "Busy Bee" scarf pattern, and it is really soft.

I liked this yarn a lot until I also ran into a knot (as I read in the previous review). Since it messes up the color gradation I don't know if I should even finish my project, which I was loving.

I like this yarn. The colors are amazing and it's very soft. While it does have some thick and thin spots, it knits pretty evenly. My only serious complaint is that of the 6 skeins I bought there were knots in all but one of them. One skein even had three knots. And unfortunately the color gradation was messed up because of the knots. I may buy it again, but not for a while. I am hoping that quality control can address the issue of knots.

I'm just wondering when will Guppy be in stock again? I haven't used it yet BUUUUUUUUUUUUT I LOOOOOOVE the softness and texture of the yarn and the beautiful colors are just so fun

I don't think this yarn is perfect but it has its moments. Good things--the colors are fabulous. Hard to choose. It knits up very soft and makes great hats and mittens. Mixed with the solids, the colors can give you amazing two-color work progressions--I knit the Chullo hat in three of the Chromas and it's wonderful. Bad things--knots. The color transition is interrupted occasionally by these knots. It's thick and thin in places, and it's a bit overly soft and flossy in texture--much softer than those Japanese color-shift yarns.

This yarn is so soft and beautiful. I am knitting my first pair of lace socks with the poppy colorway and I can't believe how wonderful it is to knit with and how good it feels in my hands. It seems like the more I knit with it the softer it gets. I highly recommend.

This yarn is surprisingly soft for a wool-nylon blend! It feels almost like merino wool. I love it's smooth color change. I'm a professional knitter and find this yarn very exciting and pleasant to work with. Ideal for socks, mittens and even for shawl. But for a scarf it would be still too rough perhaps.

I bought this yarn when it was on sale I thought this yarn would be like all your other yarns I have bought. I find this yarn very hard to work with and I have knitted for 50 years.

Purchased a few more skeins and it's nothing like what I had. I don't know if something was wrong with the previous skein or if it was a bait/switch but this is far nicer than what I had. It's very squishy, had several knots in the 2 balls and customer service hasn't responded to the complaint (been a week) but otherwise very lovely yarn.

I love the colors and the texture! It's so soft that I want to dive into a box of this wool and roll around to my heart's content. The down side is that it's really delicate and pills a lot if you try to felt it.

The yarn is gorgeous and the color changes are long and slow and I love that. The yarn that I received is so coarse and itchy that I cannot work with it, it simply too much for my hands to work with. Sad because the yarn is so gorgeous. Hopefully they'll release a color change like this in acrylic.

I made a gorgeous shawl with this yarn. The long color runs works particularly well with this pattern. I may try some other color ways with the same pattern, or just make some socks.

I bought this yarn for socks; however I would definatly NOT recommend it. It has the consistancy of roving-- no twist to it and separates very easily. I'm trying to knit using 2mm needles, but not sure that's going to be possible. I have 80 sts. on my needles. It may be very good for baby wear, etc.

I LOVE this yarn! It is so soft! I was going to make socks with it but I'm afraid if I did I wouldn't be able to keep my shoes on! So I have ordered more so I can make a blouse with it and even more on my wish list! Don't just look at the color swatches they have, click on the picture and see the ball. You will be even more impressed with the colors!

Made a mobius with 2 shades of Chroma, using 2-color brioche stitch. Fantastic. Will do more when I decide on next colors! Wonderful yarn, soft and easy to work with.

I love Chroma! I've ordered it in Galapagos, Smoothie and Poppy. I was extremely disappointed with the Poppy colorway. Not at all like described. I will not order that color ever again. (In all fairness, it is the only time I have ever been unsatisfied with a KnitPicks color.)

This has quickly become my favorite yarn to work with. I've already made quite a few things with it and they've all came out spectacularly. Here is my triangle scarf in Paperback. http://www.ravelry.com/projects/ageeksgirl08/pretty-triangle-scarf
