I should have read the reviews before purchasing this yarn. I got two hanks, each a different color. In my opinion this yarn is not bulky at it's thickest point and is very thin at it's thinnest point. The variations are dramatic. I choose to crochet the two hanks together, hoping the thin and thick would even each other out. The result is ok, but I will not order this yarn again.

Love this yarn! The colorway turmeric was a lovely golden-orange and it's so unbelievably smushy and soft. I made a blanket for a friend and it turned out looking really nice. The yarn does vary in thickness a lot, but I think that might be more visible if you were just doing a stockinette stitch. Since the pattern I used had a lace motif, the variation in thickness isn't noticeable. Also it does pill quite a bit, but I think that's inevitable when you have a yarn this soft.

I knit a blanket from this for my daughter. Over time, it has been well-loved, washed, and become softer and comfier. Highly recommend.

The colors are great and that what attracted me. Thick and thin effect doesn't bother me at all, it's rather interesting. The yarn sheds like crazy though, the fiber is all over the place, me, everything. I made a shrug, not even worn it looks like being around for years.

SOFT SOFT SOFT. Great for a sweater. So glad you guys made a yarn with Pima Cotton

Billow is my favorite yarn in the bulky category. I appreciate the soft cotton texture, all of the rich pigmented shades and most of all the Artist's creativity spinning the "Thick and Thin" design. My scarf which was knitted in Dusty Rose with Billow's texture is so beautiful. I appreciate the "Boucle" texture which appears very rich and expensive. I would enjoy this product always and I do not want it to be discontinued! BRAVO TO THE BILLOW CREATORS FOR THEIR ARTISTRY!

I love the feel of this yarn so much! So soft, and the colours are just gorgeous. I agree with another comment that there should be even more colours available! I'm making a blanket, and it's a pleasure to hold my work in my lap. I haven't experienced any pilling problems yet, maybe that will happen when blanket is done and actually gets used? Not getting any little bits on my clothing or anything as I work. I love the texture of my blanket thanks to the different thicknesses. I haven't broken the yarn accidentally at the thin parts. I think you would have to knit forcefully for that to happen, but still I knit carefully when I get to them.

I love everything about this yarn (I.e. Yardage, price, softness). I dislike the thick thin aspect however. I wish kniticks would replicate everything about this yarn with consistent thickness.

5 out of 5 stars

I love this yarn. I am knitting a blanket. It is so soft and silky, with amazing drape. I love the thick and thin parts, it gives the blanket a rustic feel. I'm so enjoying knitting with it. Thank you knitpicks!

I really like this yarn. The softness and weight. I was dissapointed to see that it's not really a bulky weight, because of the thick and thin properties. So that was disappointing. I think the dramatic change in thickness has less of an impact if you're a knitter, but for crochet it's a bit of a pain. REALLY wish that it's was a true 5 thickness the whole skein, but I still love it.

5 out of 5 stars

This yarn has a great drape and feel, super soft and warm. The thick and thin is dramatic so be sure to look at the swatch photo posted to see if that is the look you are going for. It does shed some, but not enough to hinder me from making more items with it. I washed the finished blanket in my high efficiency machine (no central agitator), laid it flat to dry, then air fluffed it for about 15 minutes. It turned out beautiful and I plan to make other items with this yarn in the future!

I've had trouble winding the hanks...have never had this happen before. Very difficult to do on a swift. I love the feel of the yarn and my afghan looks great but starting to pill. I would not use this yarn again.

1 out of 5 stars

I absolutely love this yarn. It is soft and cozy and wonderful. I made my brand new niece a baby blanket with the Tea Rose. But I will never buy it again. All but a couple of the hanks were so badly formed that it was nothing short of a miracle to wind them into balls. Beyond frustrating, this yarn is not worth the ridiculous amount of time it took to prep it for work. I am very experienced with crochet and this is the first time I have ever had an issue of this magnitude.

I was very disappointed in this yarn. I purchased the yarn to make two large pillows because it looked like it would be easy care, but it shed like crazy while I was making a pillow. Not sure if I will finish the second. Not only did it pill, the fluffy fibers made me sneeze. The colors are great and what I expected, but did not perform as I expected

2 out of 5 stars

While I love the feel of this yarn, (which is the only reason I gave it a "Fair" rating instead of "Poor"), I can't see how it could be considered a "bulky" yarn. over 75% of it is a great deal smaller than a bulky yarn, and at least 25% of it is lace or sock yarn weight. Just because less than 10% of a yarn is thick enough to be almost bulky, is hardly a reason to label it as such. It is not useful as a bulky yarn. And when knitted on needles recommended for bulky patterns it has large gaps where the yarn goes down to the smallest size. It looks "rustic" when knitted, which is hardly desired for most patterns, and definitely not for the pattern I purchased it for. (which has this yarn listed as the first choice) I wish Knit Picks would offer this yarn as a true bulky, and not call some high-bred wannabe bulky yarn, "bulky". Very disappointed in how much difference there is in the yarn size, and how little of it is actually the thicker weight. I won't be purchasing it again.

LOVE IT! One of my absolute favourite cotton yarns. So soft. The thick and thin is so cute with a simple knit stitch!

4 out of 5 stars

This yarn is so soft I could sing a song about it. I'm making a chevron baby blanket out of it, and wish I could afford to make one my size! However I must agree- the thick/thin is my ONLY reason for knocking this down a star. I'm concerned how it will wear...

3 out of 5 stars

I used seven skeins to make a blanket. The yarn shed like crazy, but was nice to knit with and stopped shedding after washing the blanket. I will use this again despite the shedding because it is soft and makes cuddly items.

I made Rosa's Caponcho (http://www.ravelry.com/projects/TheLadyHansen/rosas-caponcho) with billow and it was a really quick knit. 3 skeins was perfect amount with a shortened neck, and billows uneven texture led to a great textured finished product. Highly recommend!

LOVE this yarn. Love the hand, drape, stitch definition, warmth, and price - now give me more colors! I'd LOVE to see this in a more vibrant colorway. The yarn does pill a little if handled too much. It does break if pulled on with the intent of breaking it. There are thick and thin sections, which I did not expect, which left my blanket a little nubby but it's charming in it's own way. I really can't complain too much about these things though... my cat brought in a bunch of burs from outside and laid on my blanket, I had to go through and pick each one out. Even though there were a few spots where you could tell, for the most part it smoothed back down. If this yarn were any stronger, I'd have had to cut the burs out. If this yarn were any less nubby, you'd probably have been able to tell where I had to pull fiber out to get the burs. The blanket is currently a work-in-progress so I can't comment on the care aspect but I expect to be just as pleased if I follow the directions.

I CANNOT get over how soft this yarn is! It looks amazing on granny squares! The thick and thin though I find kind of weird.

2 out of 5 stars

The "thick and thin" aspect of this yarn is hardly a selling-point, especially for me as a crocheter. I don't really get it... why have a bulky yarn suddenly shrivel down to lace-weight? Stitches come out inconsistent and full of gaps, and now the yarn is pilling horribly. The hat that I made looks as it's been sitting at the bottom of the drawer for ages, just from the handling the yarn received as a result of me making it! I am a big fan of certain yarns on Knitpicks, but I won't be buying Billow again.

5 out of 5 stars

I used Billow in my free knitting pattern - The Bertha Blanket (marnimadeit.com). The end result? A luxurious handknit throw full of texture and beautifully not perfect or machine-like. It breathes, and is not heavy, but gives a little extra layer of warmth and comfort on chilly days or nights! Love it!

I bought this yarn on a whim, two hanks. Sigh, more winding, but I had to have it! I got it in a color that compliments my sisters. Two springtime scarves later, I want more! I wore dark jeans when crocheting the scarves and had no problem with fuzz. Boy is this a soft soft cotton. I need to improve my crocheting skills and buy more of this in a color that's good for me so I can wear that lovely sweater I'm dreaming of!

I love love LOVE this yarn! I love the dramatic thick and thin changes, I love the way it feels (like soft butter!) and I love the way it looks when it knits up, especially in garter stitch. I love the colors, and did I mention I love how it feels to knit? My entire family fights over the blanket I made with this yarn. Will absolutely be buying more!

I love KnitPicks everything. I loved the colors of this yarn and when I first handled it, the texture was amazing. But I was so very disappointed by this yarn. The variance in the thickness of the yarn has been mentioned, and I too, wonder if that very thin part would break. It was also very pilly just from winding the one ball I did. I was so disappointed that I returned the other 9 balls I had ordered.

As usual, the product is even more beautiful than the pictures. This yarn is SO soft, and easy to work with. I ordered six different colors to make two baby blankets for each of my nephews that will be born later this year. I dream of each nephew using the blanket as security blanket like Linus from The Peanuts :] This yarn is working up nicely. I am not having the shedding issues that some are complaining of. The yarn does [as stated] go from thick to thin. That feature adds lovely texture to the projects I am using it for. I have not had any issues of the either thickness splitting or falling apart like I have had with other soft, thick yarns in the past. It really lives up to the name Billow with is softness. I am looking forward to using Billow in the future for other projects.

Love the colors. I bought a yummy shade of blue. Im worried about it pilling and shedding like crazy. And its NOT a bulky weight.

2 out of 5 stars

Although the feel of this yarn is lovely, the inconsistency of the yarn width is frustrating. I am a very experienced knitter and the way this is knitting up looks as though I have just learned. I have read quite a few of the other reviews and there seems to be a lot of the same complaints. I live in Canada and the return of this yarn would require more issues than it is worth. I would definitely have returned it if I had purchased it in a store here. Fortunately there isn't a lot of money invested, therefore I will finish the baby blanket that I have started and not order again. If you don't mind the lumpy look, have at it!

I can't believe I purchased three hanks each of FIVE colors of Billow without sampling one first. And, wow, am I ever sorry. Billow is so frustrating in so many ways. The hanks are all but impossible to wind into cakes from a swift because the strands are crossed and twisted. Because of this, I have had to hand-wind all of those hanks into balls, not cakes. The "Thick-Thin" is actually more like chunky-microscopic, which makes for nerve-racking and extremely uneven knitting. The fluff from the yarn gets into my nose and eyes while I'm working with it, and I have found at least one knot in most of the hanks I have. When I am finished with my projects intended for this yarn, I will never purchase it again. The only reason I can't say I hate it is that for the price, it is super soft and the colors are gorgeous and totally unique to Billow. I do hope KnitPicks sees to it that the hanking of this yarn is more manageable and that the gauge differences are made less dramatic. It's not nice to give yarn like this to knitters. We wish to spend our time knitting. Not battling the product.

Billow is like knitting with cream. It's like swimming in cream. Breathing in cream. Trying to organize cream and have faith in the tensile strength of strands of cream. I have purchased four colors (Tea Rose, Clarity, Ice Lilly and Gosling) and in all four sets, at least one of the hanks was somewhat tedious to unwind and ball. It seemed that the hanks were "Mobius'd" in on themselves, if one can describe it that way. I can't stand that the thin part of the yarn goes abruptly down to lace-weight. It is worrisome that the yarn will break. Pilling is also definitely a problem even before the project is finished. And in winding the balls and knitting, I have inhaled much fluff. Why did I purchase four sets of Billow? Because the colorways are GORGEOUS. I simply cannot find 100% Pima cotton in "bulk weight" that is this inexpensive that has such a sophisticated color palette as Billow. However, after the four projects I'm working on, I will not be using Billow again. It's really too bad. If I had to name just the one worst aspect of this yarn, I would say the Thin is TOO THIN. The one best aspect is the sophistication in color.

So so so soft and I love the thick and thin texture! This is not only my favorite knit picks yarn but it's my top absolute favorite yarn to work with ever. It's absolutely beautiful, luscious and decadent yet still amazingly affordable. Please make more colors! That's my only complaint is that billow isn't available in more colors!

4 out of 5 stars

I LOVE the way this yarn feels its sooo soft and nice and heavy. I'm making a blanket out of it and I cannot wait for it to be finished. I will say the extreme varying in thickness is a little odd. I've used several yarns that vary in thickness but not to the extreme of this one. It doesn't effect my pattern, so it is not a problem for me, but I can see how it would be a problem for others. As far as the pilling, I've gotten some pilling and some shedding, but not a whole lot. I'm in love with the Cadet color. Its the PERFECT blue gray.

5 out of 5 stars

I love this yarn! It's a softness I've never felt with any other yarn before. But then again, all of Knit Picks yarn is super soft! Working on a cabled slouchy beanie in ash and it's so pretty. Stitch definition isn't that great but it still looks awesome! Will definitely order more soon!

4 out of 5 stars

Hasn't pilled too badly for me but my garment hasn't seen a lot of wear yet. I am IN LOVE with colorways and look forward to more. A pumpkin orange and/or a bloodorangey red would be stellar, haha. Really, just any red at all could go so well with many of these colors!

I read other reviews when I purchased this yarn so I was prepared for there to be uneven portions. I purchased a pattern on this site that calls for this yarn to be used for a baby blanket. BUYER BEWARE. While some skeins may be less uneven the 8 skeins I received in two different colors were so disappointing. The "hand spun" effect had portions so thin that as I knitted my baby blanket I actually had portions tear as the weight of the blanket on the needles pulled down. I don't know how this blanket would hold up after even one wash?! I was also dismayed to find two skeins which had knots tied in the middle of them where the yarn had broken. It is very soft and gorgeous looking but for a blanket that would get used hard and washed I would not recommend.

2 out of 5 stars

I absolutely love the colors this yarn is offered in and I'm a big fan of the thick and thin style; It gives my crochet pieces gorgeous texture. And while this yarn is a joy to work with and insanely soft, finished pieces are pretty much unusable because the yarn disintegrates all over whatever you are wearing...unless you want to carry a lint roller around in your pocket.

5 out of 5 stars

I love this yarn. I live the thin and thick. It makes for unique cowls and afghans. I have made for warm your sweetheart crochet cowls twice as long as the pattern calls for and two chevron blankets.

4 out of 5 stars

While I agree with the other reviews listed here regarding shedding and unevenness, I still love this yarn. I can't believe how soft it is. I just finished crocheting a blanket for a wedding gift and immediately bought more yarn to make one for my husband and me ( especially since he kept commenting on how much he loved the blanket). So yes, this does get a bit uneven (not super noticeable for a crocheted afghan, though) and it does shed a lot, but man if you're not going to have something super cozy at the end of your project!

I ordered this yarn in Clarity color, it was for a newborn photoshoot costume (pants and a hat) and it worked great! The color is as pictured, I winded yarn in a ball by hand with no problem, it looked like it was going to peel while knitting but actually it didn't! For me thick&thin aspect wasn't super bad, I expected bigger difference in thickness after reading the reviews. I think I used 5mm needles and just plain stockinett looks great. It's very soft and nice to skin (a little heavy though, but it was expected too). Overall pleased and would order again, I have a cardi in mind for it.

2 out of 5 stars

Yarn is think in some places and thin in others which makes it hard to knit with. I used the yarn to make a cardigan. The yarn is very soft, but when I wore the cardigan, I had fuzz all over my pants.

1 out of 5 stars

Sorry..not a fan at all! The thick and thin parts makes my knitting urn out horrible..uneven and messy..never again! Plus it pills like crazy...my white pants are grey, my black ones are have white fuzz all over them...never again!

5 out of 5 stars

This yarn is so soft and smooth. I love the thick-n-thin aspect of it, too; it makes for an interesting FO. The colors are amazing. It is a bit "dusty" to work with, but whatever, not that big of a deal. All in all, I love this yarn so much, and look forward to using it again.

5 out of 5 stars

I LOVE this yarn! Beyond softness, one of the qualities I enjoy the most is the varying thickness. It gives it the look of a hand spun and makes the finished product look that much more interesting. The colors are rich and saturated, and I hope you will bring it to us in a wider palette! KnitPicks is the best knitting site I've found -- I'm a loyal customer forever!

4 out of 5 stars

I ordered this yarn to knit a sweater that called for bulky yarn. Cons: The description says "slightly thick and thin" but to me, it's a lot more than slightly. As others have posted, it is a frequent change and it changes all the way to a fingering/lace weight yarn. I truly wouldn't have ordered it, if the description was accurate. Secondly, it sheds. A lot. I am hoping that will stop. Pros: It is honestly the softest yarn I have ever touched. I am finding it very enjoyable to knit with. The colors are gorgeous and have a lot of depth. I would definitely order more of this yarn for other projects. As a matter of fact, I am planning to knit a sweater for my son with it. I just need to remember the thick/thin issue.

5 out of 5 stars

I love this yarn, it is positively the softest I have ever touched. I love the varying thickness, in a double-knit scarf it provides such an interesting added dimension. I'm annoyed at the people leaving bad reviews because they didn't read the product description regarding varying thickness. My only wish is for a larger colour palette.

2 out of 5 stars

I love the feel and colors, however the width varies significantly every 3-5 inches, which creates uneven stitches and easy tangles. I'm having such a bitter sweet love affair with this yarn. I love the softness but the width issues are too much

3 out of 5 stars

Billow is super soft and the colors are absolutely gorgeous! That said, I have the same problem that other reviewers had with the yarn thickness. It is just barely a bulky weight yarn to begin with, and the thickness is extremely inconsistent. It will be worsted weight for a few inches, then narrow all the way to lace weight! The narrow parts usually only last a few inches but it's enough to make for some very uneven stitches. I'm making a few different cowls with this yarn but there are gaps where the yarn is so skinny. Not sure I would buy this yarn again unless the consistency issues are resolved :(

5 out of 5 stars

I haven't started working with it yet but they are soooooo soft (!!!) and the colors are gorgeous down to earth tones and very well saturated. I'm definitely buying more of billow, I just wish they had more colors!

5 out of 5 stars

Loved this yarn. The varying thickness kept my plain stitch interesting and the yarn is so soft. The colors are also wonderful!

5 out of 5 stars

I love this yarn! It is very soft to touch, and easily worked up. I ordered my Billow yarn for a granny square throw project, and could not be more pleased with the quality of the material, as well as the colours I chose (Sagebrush, Gosling, and Comfrey). Like another reviewer, I also found the areas of the yarn where the diameter was finer, could be difficult to create a uniform look (especially because I am crocheting granny squares). Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed working with this yarn!! :)

1 out of 5 stars

I did not like the yarn. It ranged from extremely thin to somewhat thick. I'm not sure why this is considered in the bulky yarn category. I still made an infinity scarf, but the cotten leaves pills all over my wool coat. Not a fan.

3 out of 5 stars

Well, the yarn isnt bulky all the time, one inch is bulky than it turns fingering... the result is not clear at all...

1 out of 5 stars

I was convinced this was some of the best yarn ever until I noticed little bits of it all over my clothes and furniture and I kept feeling its tiny fibers getting into my eyes and nose and throat while I was working with it. Halfway thru my full sized blanket I realized it pills like nobody's business. It's so bad that I can't give the blanket as a gift as I had planned because I'd hate for the recipient to have to deal with this. Very, very disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars

I would like to knit the Infinity it says 300g billow does that mean 2 balls of 100g ?and where can i buy the yarn please

4 out of 5 stars

Wonderful soft yarn! So fun to work with. My only complaint is that the thin portion of the yarn is sometimes the thickness of sewing thread, which always makes me nervous when working a pattern. I think a bit more attention to the diameter of the thin portion of the yarn (e.g., making it a bit thicker so that the thread weight is gone) will make this superb yarn even better in the future. Can't wait for the colors to be restocked, and possibly expanded! :)

5 out of 5 stars

In LOVE with Billow yarn. Just knitted a beautiful infinity scarf with it and its so soft and modern. Just wish there were even more colour options in this yarn

5 out of 5 stars

The colors are what first drew me in with Billow. They are subtle yet saturated, and look beautiful together in any combination. Knitting and crocheting with cotton yarn has been a love-hate sort of endeavor for me, but Billow turned that to love. It's soft and doesn't leave my hands feeling chafed. I'll definitely buy more.
