Andean Treasure Yarn

$6.79 50g / ball

Beautiful heathered colors add depth to this super-soft and warm yarn made from baby alpaca fiber. Alpaca fibers are sorted by their diameter (micron count), and the finest fibers are the softest. Baby alpaca is one of the softest and finest classifications of alpaca, and you will definitely enjoy the luxurious feel of this yarn against your skin. The softness is irresistible - count the number of hugs you get when wearing a sweater in Andean Treasure vs. other sweaters, and this one will win, hands down! Excellent for items that are worn close to you - scarves, vests, legwarmers, pullovers, even mittens. Feltable.

“The yarn's exquisite softness makes it perfect for any next-to-the-skin garment, especially one that could benefit from alpaca's heavy, relaxed, fluid drape.” Knitters Review

"I have quite a soft spot for alpaca, and Andean Treasure is no exception. The drape is excellent and the knitted fabric is luscious, but what really did me in were the heathered colors. There is so much depth in this yarn that it seems to glow from within. I love it!"
-Kerin D., Knit Picks Garment Designer

"I just finished a vest for my sister in Andean Treasure, and I loved working with it. The yarn showed off my delicate cables nicely, and the finished project has the perfect drape and sheen. The alpaca makes it toasty-warm, which is perfect for her winter wardrobe."

I am in love with this yarn. I've knit three Skipper's Watch hats in three separate colours (Midnight Heather, Indigo Heather, and Aurora Heather) as gifts, and they've all come out beautifully. This yarn has amazing texture and the colour depth is incredible. It is such a joy to knit with, it feels like I'm knitting clouds! Very skin-safe and warm, I'd love to knit a sweater using Andean Treasure or maybe it's worsted weight counterpart, as some reviewers have suggested. So much love for this yarn.

I love this yarn. I made the KP pattern "Marshall Men's Sweater" with the colors in the pattern. It is absolutely beautiful and truly one I love to wear. I also made myself a cabled scarf with the color "fog heather." It is soft and wonderful against my skin. It does a bit on my wood pea coat, but if you don't mind a bit of shedding, I will say that, for the sweater, even though my gauge almost always matches suggested gauges on yarn wrappers, I had to use much smaller needles with this yarn for the sweater. It took a long time to knit it on size 3 needles...This is why I gave it a very good instead of an excellent.

This yarn is gorgeous- so incredibly soft I just want to be handling it even when I'm not knitting with it! I've been impressed with the brightness and vividness of the colors. It can be a little splitty, but not to a degree to cause any real problems for me. I just want it desperately in heavier weights! A worsted version of this would be so incredible for some heavier but soft sweaters! Love the heathered hues! I knit a pair of mittens and a hat with calypso, and immediately ordered more!

I just finished knitting a baby blanket with this fog heather and it is gorgeous. I am so happy with the finished product. The drape and feel of this yarn is fantastic, it is incredibly soft and really knits up beautifully.

Hello, can you make this yarn in worsted weight?? Please~~

I have used this yarn and made mittens and a owl that clings closely to my neck. Not even a hint of an itch on my very sensitive skin.

I love this yarn! Not at all itchy, very soft and warm, does not pill - would love more colors for mittens!

I think this is my ultimate favorite yarn! It is so airy and soft and is just a dream to work with. I worry about having to rip out any yarns that have some loft to it as it can get messy but this yarn is a breeze to frog if needed. This has become my go-to fiber for so many projects! Love it!

I Love my Andean Treasure yarn. I made socks with double yarn and I Love them. I wish you had a heavier yarn in baby alpaca. I appreciate your free shipping to Canada because we have already a 40% exchange plus 15% tax. I also enjoy your rainbow needles very much!

Ordered this in Aurora, the picture doesn't do it justice. It's a medium-darkish green with strands of black and another strand of this bright green that just shines and glows beautifully in the light. I knitted this double on a pair of US 2/2.75 mm needles, the fabric was very thick and squishy. After blocking it softened even more. I'll most definitely order this again, next time in Embers. Please add more colors and offer this in more weights, Knit Picks! Especially for us wool intolerant knitters!

Thats a wonderful yarn, i love it! The only problems, there is not enough colors.

I agree the yarn is wonderfully soft and more colors are necessary.

I LOVE this yarn, and I've bought a lot of it. It is wonderfully soft and warm and makes sweaters that are like a loving hug. There are, however, certain problems, highlighted by at least one other reviewer. One is that the yarn is "splitty", as another reviewer described it. I suspect that the same characteristics that make this wool so soft and non-irritatating, smoother fibers, make it hold together less well and make it more slippery. Because of that, I would suggest wooden needles, and I would also suggest that it may not be a yarn for beginners. A second problem, also noted by at least one other reviewer, is skein integrity. One reviewer noted how difficult it was when she mistakenly started from the inside. I know I always feel challenged to find the right end. Taping the end into the label/band would solve that problem. However, I've discovered that, even if I've successfully retrieved my end, the balls fall apart way too quickly. Again, I suspect that the non-clingy nature of the fiber is responsible, but I also will say that the yarn balls I have wound myself, after dying the yarn, do seem to hold together better.

I made 2sweaters with is fantastic yarn. I went on caressing it (it is as soft as butter) and so took longer than necessary. Several years back, I got from you, a merino/baby alpaca/silk yarn. Why did you stop it? I have one complaint though. I ran short of yarn and you had discontinued the colour. So I had to finish it in another yarn. That was disappointing. So, please do not withdraw colours suddenly.

I just bought coriander heather and the color is so delicate and the softness is amazing. It knits up beautifully, even though I am experiencing some splitting of threads. I think I will use this more and more. Wish there were more colors available.

Love this yarn - but also really ADORED the Andean silk (alpaca and silk what could be more luxurious) - the softness, the slight sheen, the beautiful product! Wish KnitPicks would bring it back!

Excellent yarn - soft, good stitch definition - a joy to knit with. I have noticed that the number of colours for this wool has decreased - I hope this does NOT mean that the line will be discontinued. This is gorgeous yarn and should be a staple of the KnitPicks collection.

Excellent yarn - soft, good stitch definition, a pleasure to knit. I'm just disappointed to see that the colour selection has decreased (I truly hope this yarn will NOT be discontinued). The burgundy that used to be available was a gorgeous rich colour. I would buy more of this (and other colours). This is a beautiful alpaca yarn and should remain a staple of the Knit Picks line.

I bought this yarn for a cardigan and it is wonderful! I loved working on what could have been a tedious (all seed stitch) project, but instead I just loved holding the yarn. It took shape beautifully. I will buy this again!

I knit 4 pair of socks -- 2 for my sister-in-law and 2 for my brother. They LOVE them!!! Perfect for their climate. Thank you Knit Picks for such lovely yarn! It is excellent quality at a great price. There are only 2 things I would wish for -- more colors and the availability of fingering weight for socks without being a blend unless blended with nylon or such.

I wove myself an 80 inch Peruvian shawl with this yarn and it took me forever. What slowed me down was the softness is so lovely I kept stopping to stroke the work. I had to force myself not to do that, lol. My daughter-in-law loves it so much I promised to make her one, and now my daughter wants one. I am so pleased with this yarn. Thank you!!

I love alpaca yarn and have tried many brands. I always come back to Andean Treasure. It is by far the best value out there. It is soft, and the weight is good. The heathered colors are gorgeous. I agree with other reviewers that more colors are needed. If more colors were available, I would never need to buy any other alpaca brand!

I just finished knitting a cowl/collar and wanted to just keep knitting. The yarn is so soft and plush.

Uh oh! Do NOT try to knit these skeins from the inside-out. Lest you end up with the same knotted mess that I did. Gorgeous yarn. But the put-up needs major help.

A second thought: this yarn is a bit "splitty." Still, the color saturation, stitch definition and softness are really wonderful!

Just received shipment of this yarn in "Embers." SO exquisitely soft! Bought this shade to make a scarf for a wool-allergic friend. Am ordering a couple of other colors: one for another friend, one for me. YES please: more colors!!!!!

Very nice yarn. I purchased the embers color which has a lot of depth to it, many rich tones intermingled together, nicely done heather color way. This yarn is a great value price wise. Time will tell how well it holds up compared to other 100% alpaca yarns. No reason so far to say it wouldn't perform well, as it seems to be knitting up as sturdily as any competitor. My hubby can't tolerate the scratchiness of most wools so I'm always on the lookout for alternate fibers. As with the other comments, I would love to see a few more colors. I plan to buy a lot more of this line.

I think this is the first Knit Picks yarn I ever tried, years ago. And I've used it so many time since. Embers Heather is a gorgeous color I've used over and over; it's great combined with Woods or Reindeer. And I love the newer Mystery Heather - always looking for those very dark charcoals. Thanks for continuing to make this wonderful yarn, and I agree it would be fun to have more colors. This and Alpaca Cloud are my two all-time favorites (and I have to admit that I stockpile the latter in Midnight; I've used it in SO many projects and have more plans for it in the future...)

Yes, please, more colors! Wouldn't this be great in almost as many colors as the Palette line? A softer choice in as many colors would really bolster options for sweaters, scarves, mitts, hats, shawls, you name it! Excellent fiber! Never disappoints! (Just more colors!)

Fabulous yarn! I adore it and only wish there were more colors available (especially an aubergine purple). I recently crocheted a long infinity scarf with the Embers shade and it's absolutely delicious.

This is perfect yarn for baby knits as gifts, it's beautifully soft without a lot of tickly fibers.

This yarn is as soft as cashmere for a fraction of the price! I love working with it! The subtle heathereffects are beautiful as well. I made myself a cabled sweater, which I've worn all winter and experienced minimal pilling. The yarn holds its shape very well - I'm looking forward to using this yarn again soon. Please, Knit Picks, more colors!
