“In Alpaca Cloud, you have what feels like a medium-range baby alpaca in a delicate and extremely affordable laceweight yarn. The two component strands have been plied together at a relaxed angle, lending a smooth fluidity to the yarn. But once washed, a modest, blurry bloom appears over the surface of your knitted fabric for a soft, cozy effect.” Interweave Knits, Winter 2007

Beautiful yarn. Alpaca is finest and softest than traditional wool blends. Makes a shawl wearable on hotter days. Also flows in the wind quite gracefully making for many a comment. Extra colors make this outstanding. Just make sure you wind in a ball before starting. Careful where you clip the holding yarns and a chair top will do fine

This yarn is the softest squishiest yarn I have used! I would call it a thin lace weight but it knits up like a dream. I am working on a large semi-circular lace shawl and it is knitting up beautifully. The stitches are crisp with good definition and the finished fabric feels like a cloud. Love this yarn!

Alpaca Cloud is my go-to lace yarn, especially since Knit Picks expanded the color selection. I've knitted over a dozen beaded shawls and throws with this yarn, and the only problems I've ever experienced were because of the nature of the fiber and NOT due to any manufacturing flaws. Alpaca can be a bit slick and springy, so be careful what kind of needles you use if you're knitting lace. Also, I've found that the colors are a little darker than they appear in the photos. Other than that, this is a superior, very affordable yarn. I'd give it six stars if I could!

Very soft and warm. The colors were AMAZING. I had no trouble with tangling, and I was doing a (rather long) double-knit scarf. Since the colors were used to create pictures, even in the reverse, it was essential that the right color be where I needed it, when I needed it, and I had no issues with it. This yarn was truly a joy with which to work.

Bought on clearance to work up some bookmarks, looking forward to making a few pieces of jewelry and headbands with it too. Super soft, super fine and easy to work with little of the splittiness that I've had from heavier weight baby alpaca yarns. Colorways: Wickham, Lot 7A7962 - true to photo Elizabeth, Lot 7A7963 - true to photo Cora, Lot 7A8902 - almost true to photo. A soft pinky-mauve, not quite as purple as it looks on the photo.

I purchased the color Edith to weave a scarf on my loom. When the yarn arrived, I could not get over how incredibly soft it was. The coloring was absolutely gorgeous! The subtle hints of red and gold mixed in with the warm brown made the yarn all that much more beautiful. As a side note, I would describe the yarn as a light lace-weight yarn since it is much finer than the Shadow Tonal lace yarn that I purchased. Overall, the scarf turned out fantastic and made a wonderful gift to a friend. I'm definitely looking forward to making more projects with this wonderful yarn in the future.

All I can say is WOW! So, so soft. And yes, I did have a bit of a tanglefest with one color, but the others have all behaved themselves quite well. (Lace can have a mind of it's own to begin with... so... I don't think this is a fault of this particular yarn...) I used it held double (before the fingering was released) for an almost fingering weight for a crochet shawl. Worked up like a dream. Blocked like a dream. Soft and amazing and wonderful. I'm totally using this for my next laceweight project, whatever it is.

I recently got four hanks of this in the color-way Charlotte! Very soft, no problems with cuts as other reviewers have mentioned. For being 100% alpaca it is quite sturdy! Color is consistent over the four I bought and it's such a lovely shade! But HOLY COW does it tangle!!!! I have had similar issues with the Hawthorne yarns...perhaps it's how they are hanked? Even when my husband helps me by being a human yarn swift, things can get crazy! Do NOT attempt to ball this alone, unless you have a swift...it will end in a tangled disaster!!

Beautifully soft yarn and the colours are gorgeous. I can't wait to crochet with it. Thank you Knit Picks.

This yarn is really soft and pretty, but it tangles if you look at it the wrong way. It's too frustrating trying to work with it without it becoming tangled.

love this yarn, I did a shawl on this one called Lady Sybil, you just have to be careful when frogging your work, as this tends to slightly felt. Knitpicks, can you make this into a 100g skeins instead of 50g, as most shawls uses 800-1000meters. thank you

Everyone always oohs and aahs over how soft knit pick yarns are, but I've tried the shadow and the gloss lace weight yarns before and they were just alright. THIS! This however is amazingly soft and I can't help but keep touching it. I picked it up in the color Charlotte which is just beautiful. Very soft and feminine, as well as unique. I loved it so much that I just splurged on several skeins of other shades and am now searching for lace weight projects just to knit this with!

Wow--Knitpicks thanks for adding more colors to your lace yarn. Please keep the lace weight yarns coming and the colors!

It is so soft and luxurious. I bought the Aristocratic sampler and my husband immediately was drawn to the Carson colorway. Please make that colorway available in a heavier yarn weight. It's dark and masculine without being stark black and would make great items for men in a heavier weight yarn.

This is wonderful yarn, and the price very nice. I have lots of the older colores and have knitted it, soft and dreamy, lovely knit. I discover today that there are over 60 colors now!!!!!! I am in yarn heaven!!! I would LOVE to have this yarn in fingering too, many times I knit with two or three threads together. Thank you KnitPicks for bringing so many colors.

Excellent yarn for haapsalu shawls. I have made a few already and planning on knitting more. Please, add more colors.

I love, love, love this yarn! It's so soft. I ordered the Midnight Heather, and it's a beautiful combination of dark blue and dark purple. The shawl I knitted is nice and light, but warm at the same time. I ordered Garnet Heather to make another shawl, I loved the yarn so much.

This yarn is really nice, soft alpaca. It feels like butter with a very soft halo. This is fine lace, not gossamer, but thinner than the gloss or shadow lace options here. I love the 2 colors I picked: "Midnight" and "Oyster Heather." They are both just beautiful. I ordered one of each,to make sure I liked them, and I do, so I'm back to order one more of each color so I have enough for a full project in each color. Nice price, well below the cost of traditional lace yarns.

Love this yarn. Made lace shawl and long cardigan. Have lots of plans with the yarn, so please do not discontinue it for the next hundred years.

I LOVE this yarn. The photo's don't do the colors justice at all. Soft, and Gorgeous. I agree with everyone else...Please add more colors. I would love the turquoise, and some lovely earth/autumn colors. Also...it would be really great to have a worsted version of this with a great array of colors. :-D

I love this yarn. The colors that I have ordered thus far are all amazing. It's slightly variegated, which adds a depth and dimension to the color that is gorgeous. I used it to make the Juliet cardigan, and got so used to using it that now I can't stop, and keep looking for new lace-weight projects just to have an excuse to continue knitting with Alpaca Cloud. I agree with the other reviewers: Please add, do not subtract, color choices in the future if at all possible!!

This is one of my all-time favorite yarns, buttery soft and amazingly fine quality. Inspired by some of Marianne Isager's designs, I often use two or three strands together to create a tweed in fingering (2) or DK (3) weight, with wonderful results. Especially in the midnight colorway, this is one yarn that I stockpile because I always know that I will use it.

I love this yarn. I use it primarily to knit things for the dolls I collect, because it's the perfect scale. I just wish knitpicks would ADD more colors instead of take them away.
