Cables & Textures

Crossed Stockinette
A slight change in knitting produces a zigzag effect and a slightly less elastic fabric.
Twisted Stockinette
By working stitches through the back loops only, you come up with a taut, stable fabric.
Learn to Cable
Cables are simply the outcome of setting stitches aside and knitting them in a different sequence. The process results in a twist and what we commonly know as a cable.
Learn to Cable Without a Cable Needle
With a little practice, and faith that your stitches won't unravel, you can cross your cables without a cable needle and speed up your knitting.
Herringbone Stitch
This technique is a nice way to tack up a hem. It can be applied to the cuffs, neck or hemline of a sweater.
Ribbing
Alternate knit stitches and purl stitches to create corrugated columns in your knitting. Ribbing doesn't curl and pulls in slightly. It's a good stitch to use for hems.
