Swish Worsted Yarn

$4.49 50g / ball

Swish is the superwash of knitters’ dreams! By selecting high grade Merino wool (20.5 microns), we have been able to produce a machine washable yarn that is super soft - definitely worthy of being worn against a baby's skin. Just the ticket for children’s clothes, afghans, charity knitting and gift knitting. No need to worry about the care your knitting will receive since this yarn can be machine washed and will come out even softer than before! This worsted weight will help you outfit the whole family in record time.

Note: For best machine wash results, turn the garment inside out and wash in cold water on a delicate cycle. You may want to wash projects made from darker colors by themselves for the first few washes in case the yarn bleeds a bit.

“I just received my order, and I must say I love your products. I am so thrilled with the yarn I ordered, Imagination in Gingerbread House, Wicked Witch and Damsel and Swish Worsted in Lemongrass Heather. I can barely wait to start all my new projects (just have to finish the one I have nearly finished with Andean Silk in Cinnamon). Thanks for the great products and fast shipping.” Michelle K., Knit Picks customer

“I wanted to thank you for my last order. I phoned prior, and spoke to a nice representative for Knit Picks. I told her I wanted yarn info out of a book I was about to order. I explained I wanted to order the yarn amounts at the same time. She took the time to locate the book and give me all the info I needed. I found out I needed a needle too! I received my order in good time and began the project right away. I really enjoyed the worsted Swish. What a nice yarn! I love the Swish in Bulky too! Thanks so much.” Karen M., Knit Picks customer

Swish is soft, so I liked that. However, it seems to be more of a DK weight, not as thick a fiber as worsteds I'm accustomed to. It produced a drapy fabric with largish stitches that seemed to grow after blocking. The pattern called for classic worsted weight wool, so I assumed Swish would work. Bad choice. This became apparent when I knit a child's cardigan size 2, designed with 4-6 inches of ease. On US 9 needles (Knitpicks brand) to get the gauge, the sweater "bloomed" much larger after wet blocking. So I ripped it all out and re-knit on US8. That produced a tiny sweater fit for a 6 month old or maybe, with the blooming, a child's size 1. Wow. I am so disappointed. My suggestion to all knitters is to check measurements before and after wash/drying a swatch to make sure any changes will be appropriate for your pattern. I like Swish, just not for this application.

I absolutely adore this yarn! Its extremely soft, extremely durable and super easy to care for.I also really like the wide range of colors. Its great for blakets, headwraps, cowls, hats, mittens and more. Whenever I'm yasrn shoping, this is my go-to yarn and I think it will be yours to.

I love the quality of this yarn. Easy to work with and machine washes beautifully. I only wish it came in a larger put-up, such as 100g. Hate, hate, hate weaving in all the ends on a large project such as a blanket or adult sweater.

Have loved this yarn for baby blankets! Blocks beautifully and is so soft after it goes through repeated washings. Really wish there was a cream or ivory shade. Please consider adding one! The white is too stark to combine with most of the other shades.

I am using this yarn for a pullover for my grandson. I love the softness of it and find it knits up beautifully. Great that it is suitable for machine washing.

While my knitting experience with Swish was perfectly fine--no issues with splitting, etc.--I'm disappointed with how the FO has held up. I knitted a pullover for my 1-year-old, and noticed a lot of pilling under the arms and on the undersides of the sleeves within the first week. Yarn pills with abrasion, so that's not a huge problem for me, but with laundering (cold water, gentle cycle, laid flat to dry), the sweater has started to felt. The body has exhibited significantly less felting than the sleeves, so it may be that the abrasion that caused the pilling also encouraged felting, but I will be hand-washing the sweater from now on. Thankfully it's a baby sweater, but with this experience, I don't think I would commit the time to knit an adult size sweater with this yarn if it won't wear or launder well. The accessories I have knit with KnitPicks' Wool of the Andes Tweed have held up far better, and recipients of such gifts have complimented the feel of the wool, so even if it's not merino or as squishy, I've had a better experience with that yarn.

I made a sweater out of this yarn. It is very soft and comfortable but as soon as I had finished the sweater it pilled a lot! It looked old and worn right away I'm disappointed about that since the sweater feels so soft and comfortable.

I have been very happy with this yarn. I do mostly amigurami on small hooks and I have not noticed any excess splitting. I am also using it in an blanket I am making and it is working up beautifully. I haven't ordered a lot of different colors, but the ones I have I would say are slightly darker than pictured, but not so significantly that I would consider it a problem.

Very delicious to work with considering it is wool and I have hand eczema! My first project was a Flax female sweater in Fairy Tale and the color and result are stunning! I have to admit I find the weight barely a worsted, that I am usually able to work on 4mm and this one I liked more the result over a 3.75mm, which I guess makes it a DK. I bought several other colors for other projects, all very impressive and I have tons of projects! I wish Knit picks made more real worsted/aran!!

I love the Swish wool. I wish you would bring back the Tonals. I just knitted half way through a blanket with Pearlescent to find I did not have quite enough. Then I discovered it was discontinued. Next I searched on Ravelry and there it is in a few individual's stash but not for sale. I have not decided if I just put this project aside or rip it all out. I also haven't figured out why people would photograph and post all the wool in their stash if they are not interested in selling it. Hmmm. Please bring back Swish Tonal.

Love SWISH! Incredibly soft, please make an ivory color in both weights.

This is my most favorite yarn EVER! No matter what size needle ( have used it on size 2 thru 7 ) or type ( wood or metal, although a bit slick on metal ) Swish knits up like a dream! The color selection is great, quality is excellent ( have had not one problem with it being "splitty" as some have mentioned ) and the price is great, especially when it goes on sale. Swish is my go to yarn, whether it is for my mitts, hats, or my little tiny items - I would be lost without it in my stash.

this is my "splurge yarn" compared to Wool of Andes. The colors are equally vibrant and beautiful, especially with all the choices but this yarn is so incredibly soft. I found it to be the softest I've worked with for a long time. Then adding the superwash properties makes this wonderful. It's a splurge yarn though due to budgeting. Highly highly recommend it though if you have the extra money to spend on the extra bucks

Love working with this yarn. I'm making the sideways throw with it. The only change I'd like is to have bigger skeins. I feel like I'll be weaving in loose bits for the rest of my life.

Bought bark color to make a scarf for my husband. What a waste of my time. After few hours of wearing it, the yarn became super fuzzy. Will never buy this yarn again!

I am using Swish Worsted to crochet fingerless mittens for Christmas. Some of the mittens have to be machine washable and I chose Swish to try for those. I'm very glad I did -- it is a pleasure to work with. It feels soft and springy the way merino wool should. I have had a minor problem with splitting, but that may be because part of the mittens are done in half double crochet. The only color I have used so far is Delft Heather, and it matches the photo. I have ordered more Swish and expect to use it for many projects in the future. Knit Picks delivery is slower than one of its main competitors by several days. The yarn was well packaged.

This yarn is one of my favorites! It's so soft, and washes very well. I disagree with other reviewers a bit. I'd say the splitting is average - not the worst I've encountered, but you have to pay attention a bit. It's also on the light side of worsted, but it's not as thin as DK.

I used this yarn for a capelet and a shawl. When I blocked the shawl this yarn really came to life! Once released during the blocking process the yarn is amazingly SOFT!!! Stitch definition is very good, and looks really beautiful. Good bounce/squish, nice give and finger feel while working. I ordered more of it because my aunt showed the shawl to my cousin and now she wants one! (So be careful who you give it to! LOL) This will be my new "go to" yarn in worsted.

I love this yarn so much! I've never had any problems with splitting and the color is amazing! This is by far my favorite worsted yarn and I plan on getting more for my next projects.

I love this yarn! In my usage I have not found it to be splitty at all - sure the very random split has happened as with any yarn but overall not a splitty yarn for me. Finding it to be a very slippery fiber on my Addi''s size 9 but for the tiny items I frequently knit ( size 2 or 4 Blue Sky Alpaca's ) not too much so. Have gotten a variety of colors and the only one that as pictured has not been true to description/pic on computer screen it the Lemon Grass - it is more of a dark olive green with yellow undertones which is fine with me as it is earmarked for a baby boys sweater. This yarn has just the right stretch for me and I am so glad I gave it a go. Great yarn and a great price combined with the always great service from knitpicks Swish is a winner!

I love this yarn. I wish you'd bring back the tonals in the worsted weight. I often pick projects that let the yarn shine and the tonals do that

3 out of 5 stars

looks beautiful but as others say, it splits easily and as one other customer reviewed, it is NOT worsted weight--more like DK.

5 out of 5 stars

This is very nice, a little fuzzier than Plymouth Merino Worsted, but also a little thicker (I don't agree with reviewers who say it's closer to DK). Very soft.

3 out of 5 stars

This is nice soft wool but definately NOT worsted weight. It is more of DK weight. So keep that in mind while buying. i had to knit with yarn held double for my project.

Love working with this yarn and the projects turn out just as expected (although, like others said, the splitting is a little annoying). PLEASE stock more frequently. Stuck mid-baby blanket because I ran out of Squirrel Heather (I hope it comes in before my friend's baby is born!)

I am a new knitter and my husband asked for a nice soft scarf for my third project. I picked this yarn because it is merino, washable, had lots of reviews for being soft to wear and easy to work with for beginners. I am happy to say that I have found it exactly as advertised. And in fact it has surpassed my expectations. The yarn is really lovely to work with. It slides off my wood Cubics needles easily but not so easily that it is too fast for me and causes me to drop stitches. I've had to Tink back a few times and have had no splitting at all to worry about. It's also super soft and not at all scratchy. Also this is my first project with dark thread (up until now I've stuck to light thread to make it easier for me) and even though that has taken some getting used to, this thread has nice definition that makes it easy to use even with such a dark color (Lost Lake Heather). I'm not skilled at judging gauge yet though, so I can't comment on that with any certainty. I am using size 9 circular Cubics needles, and am using pure seed stitch for the whole scarf.

Great yarn! Got three skeins in white to knit a hat and scarf for a gift. Very soft yarn. Also started a wrap in dove heather. Fairly consistent fibers with a few random bumps here and there. Hoping that this will even out after blocking.

4 out of 5 stars

This yarn is beautiful (I chose Lava Heather). However, even when using Addi Turbo Lace needles, this yarn has a tendency to split. I notice every time it splits, though, so I am able to correct it. I haven't completed my project yet, so I am not able to say how it washes and wears.

5 out of 5 stars

This is by far my favorite yarn. I keep trying other knit picks yarn, and they are nice, but I keep coming back to Swish. Like everyone else has said, it knits well, washes well and wears well. The only change I would want is having Swish available in more yarn weights. I have always found yarn to be itchy especially on my forehead and neck (hats and scarves), even acrylic yarns were itchy, but I don't itch with Swish.

5 out of 5 stars

This yarn is fantastic (and a great deal!) I made two sweaters for my kids with this yarn and both colors were beautiful. They have been washed numerous times and have both been passed down to younger siblings. This yarn knits well, wears well and washes well. It keeps its shape and is very soft even after many machine washings.

5 out of 5 stars

This is one of my most fave yarns to work with. It's very soft, the colors are gorgeous, finished garments hold up well to wear and washing, and the price is right. I can't say enough good things about it.

2 out of 5 stars

The yarn is a good weight and soft. BUT the colors are so vastly different from what is pictured that I'm flabbergasted. The Rainforest Heather is NOT teal in any stretch of the imagination. It's a very very dark green. The Cornmeal is a very deep gold. The Green Tea Heather is closer than the other two, but still several shades darker. If one color was off, I'd be disappointed. If all three are WAY off, I'm very annoyed.

I am beginner knitter (learned via YouTube on February 21, 2014). I purchased 4 skeins of Dusk, Marine Heather, and Delft. I made beanies and scarves doubling two skeins for each project. I LOVE this! Wool is a must during Winter and this is so soft, so giving, very stretchy, and more importantly: SOFT without being coarse!

I love this yarn! my only complaint is colors. I desperately wish there was navy and baby blue. I know there are colors that come close. But if I want to do something in those colors I have to go elsewhere. Pretty please stock navy and baby blue!!!

I was testing a very intricate cable pattern for a designer and didn't want to use very expensive yarn because I am pretty new at intricate designs. I picked Swish yarn because 1. I prefer animal fibers 2. the price 3, the color 4, the reviews. I received the yarn quickly and love Knitpicks for their customer service. About the yarn: The color I choose was Dusk and it is a little darker than the pix on the website, but that was OK. The yarn is lovely to work with and shows good definition. The reason I gave it a FAIR rating was because if I have to frog or tink back it kept splitting and was a pain to pick up all the little threads. But I think in the long run it will work out well. Hopefully, it won't pill.

I am a long time customer of Knit Picks. I've ordered literally hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise over the years. I love swish, but some of the darker colors have a tendency to bleed. I also agree that the yarn does have tendency to lose it's shape as well, this may be due to the machine washing versus blocking, I am not sure, this is not enough to stop me from buying more swish though. I love this yarn. It's soft, easy to work with and very cost effective overall.

This yarn is AMAZING! Finished product looks beautiful & photographs well for my newborn and baby items. It reminds me of butter for some reason : ) My only complaint would be the time it takes for colors to restock & I would love a cream color!

I love Swish!! I have used it for scarves, socks, mittens, hats, and a beautiful cowl. It never fails me. It washes up very nice, shows off my fancy stitches, and holds it shape. So soft, too. Every project I have done for the last 4 years using Swish has been great. Please don't stop making this yarn. Could you make it in Sport weight for lighter socks?

I love this yarn. I used to think I was allergic to wool until the sales person talked me into trying the yarn. A friend asked if i'd make a balaclava for her nephew in Afghan War. Felt like a request for a Holmesian item and the requirement was wool. My hands which would at times turn red just touching a wool were NEVER bothered with this product..Now I make hats and blankets for my grandsons and granddaughters. Never disappointed !

I love Swish yarn. It is my go to yarn for washable wool. I have done many things that need to be tuff enough to wash and soft enough to love. I have never been disappointed by this line.

5 out of 5 stars

I have crocheted, knit, blocked and washed this yarn (the wash was after I ripped back a failed WIP, then reset the yarn into a fresh hank for re-use), and let me tell you, this yarn is a dream to work with! It has a very soft, squishy texture and happily knits/crochets up without any fuss. However, I did find it easier to crochet with than knit, as sometimes the yarn would split while knitting. Either way, the end results are beautiful! Great for a beginner!

I purchased this yarn to knit a hooded scarf for a friend of mine. The color is exquisite, the yarn is soft and wonderful! I've never been able to wear wool due to the itch factor, but this is really different. Shows stitches well too!

5 out of 5 stars

I love this yarn! I got a ball to try it out and I absolutely love it. I will be buying more!!

5 out of 5 stars

Incredibly soft, never scratchy, dense and warm... Swish merino wool is my absolute favorite yarn! I only wish there were more colors to choose from, as it has become my go-to yarn for everything from gifts and personal items to the accessories I knit to sell in my online store. True, it doesn't have the "body" that WOTA has; but what it lacks in body, it more than makes up for in luxurious softness and suppleness.

5 out of 5 stars

I have two hats and two neck warmers knit in Swish Worsted for outdoor winter exercise. After two years of daily winter wear and plenty of washing and drying, they still look great, feel soft and keep me warm. Whenever I knit with Swish, people stop to touch the fabric and comment on the texture of the yarn. They're always surprised to learn wool can be so soft.

3 out of 5 stars

I used this to make the Irish Lad Jacket. It turned out beautifully. However, my grandson uses it and it has been washed and is very soft and has no body left to it. I am somewhat disappointed and wondering what yarn I should use next time to hold its body better.
