A summer (knitted and crocheted) car-seat size baby blanket, made with Knit Picks Simply Cotton Sport. By using larger than usual knitting needles/crochet hook for this weight yarn, we get a looser gauge, and more airy baby blanket.
The design calls for 4 colors: 2 skeins (328 yds) for the border, and 1 skein each for the other 3 colors.
The blanket begins with a crocheted border, then stitches are picked up with knitting needles - the body of the blanket has several sections of different knitted patterns, including garter stripes, eyelet, and basketweave.
At the end of the blanket the knitting is bound off, stitches are picked up with the crochet hook, and the second border is worked.
Loose ends are woven in, then stitches along the 2 sides are picked up in the border color, and crocheted edges are worked.
Finishing includes weaving in the final loose ends, and threading a ribbon (optional) around all 4 sides of the border.
Blocking is recommended for this yarn - after machine drying until damp.
