The term monophonic is used for music consisting of a single musical line. Examples of monophonic styles would be chants, or Plainsongs, such as Gregorian, Ambrosian, and Mozarabic.

Monophonic’s slouched shape is formed by a series of short rows that keep the crown of the hat falling neatly toward the back. Using this shaping method removes the bulk of extra fabric that would typically rest at the nape of the neck and also lowers the yardage requirement.
