I Heard The Bells Mittens

These colorful mittens feature the first stanza from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’spoem, Christmas Bells. “I heard the bells on Christmas day, Their old, familiar carols play, And wild and sweet the words repeat, Peace on earth goodwill to men.” Longfellow had endured a tragic couple of years - first his wife died from a freak accident while sealing a letter then his son was severely wounded in the Civil War. He wrote the poem on Christmas Day 1864. You can read the entire poem here.
The Christmas Bells Mittens use three colors of Knitpicks’ Palette. They are knit from the cuff to the tip and feature a peasant thumb and a twisted rib cuff. All three colors of yarn are carried throughout the mittens to minimize weaving in yarn ends when you’re finished. You can achieve three different sizes by using different needle sizes.
