Located in eastern Turkey, Usak is a city that has a history of rug making that dates all the way back to at least the fifteenth century. One major distinction of Turkish rugs when compared to Persian rugs is the color palette. Usak rugs tend to use much more brown, yellow and rust tones than bright reds and vibrant blues of Persian rugs. Drawing inspiration from the rich history of Usak rugs, this sock design borrows a stylized floral motif that is repeated throughout the leg and the foot in order to create a textured pattern using a small cluster stitch. The top of the cuff shows off a variation on this stylized floral motif by using a larger cluster stitch design. This pattern is a great way to learn an interesting new technique, while creating an unique, textured pattern throughout the sock.
