Directions for this project in Knitting Classic Style. Tabi socks can be traced back to the 1860s and were said to be knit by samurai warriors to supplement their income when their traditional influence was waning. Still a popular hosiery item today in Japan, tabi are worn with all types of thong sandals. While they first appear and feel odd to many Westerners, they are truly comfortable to wear once you adjust to them.
