The Salor socks are named after one of the oldest and most distinguished Turkmen tribes, dating as far back as the eleventh century. Today, a small group of people who still use the Salor name live in the city of Herat, located in northern Afghanistan. Although differences between Turkmen rugs are very subtle to the untrained eye, Salor rugs are commonly red and feature columns of octagonal motifs, known as guls. The Salor socks are decorated with columns of traveling cable stitches that create large and small elliptical motifs which mimic the gul designs found on the rugs. The pattern continues down the front and back of the sock, going all the way down the heel as well. This intricate design really stands out against the backdrop of a tonal red colorway.
