These socks are inspired by the small town of Nain, located in the middle of Iran. Although woolen textile production can be traced back for centuries, Nain only started adding rugs to their repertoire in the 1930s and is now producing some of the world’s most finely knotted carpets. Distinguishing qualities of Nain rugs include delicate floral designs along with elaborate medallions. The Nain socks use the traditional color palette of the rugs which includes a variety of pale blue shades. The curves of the flower and medallion designs are incorporated with the use of a flowing, curvilinear pattern that travels down the leg of the sock. The use of different decreases with yarn overs creates a detailed mock cable that is fun to work.
