More than just a simple beanie, the beautiful cable patterns of this hat are inspired by the intricate carved knotwork of the Kildalton Celtic cross found on Islay in Scotland.

Worked in the round, the Kidalton hat is worked from the bottom up. Cables extend into both the hat’s ribbing and crown decreases for a pleasing and harmonious effect.

The hat can be topped with an optional pompom.

This pattern is fully charted.

I just finished knitting this hat, I started it on a Friday and finished the on Monday (so 3 days total for a size large, probably took a total of 8 hrs). It came out great and is fairly easy to follow the chart. I don't really like charted patterns, I prefer written directions but the way this one is it kind of has to be charted for all of the different sizes (which is what I also like about this hat pattern). This hat would be great for an intermediate beginner to work on their cabling and chart reading skills.
