Khotan refers to the largest of the oasis towns on the southwestern edge of the Taklamakan Desert. Archaeologists have dated documents from a Buddhist monk that mentions knotted carpets from Khotan back to at least as early as the seventh century. Although there is more variation in both the structure and design of Khotan rugs, they do characteristically incorporate intricate diamond motifs as well as the color yellow. The Khotan socks reflect this aesthetic with its soft, yellow colorway along with the stacks of diamonds that are detailed with lace patterning. The defined lines and repetition of the chart make this a great pattern when wanting to incorporate delicate lacework into socks without being too daunting.
