Located in the northwestern corner of Azerbaijan, the town of Kazak is the namesake of rugs from this region. Rugs closely associated with Kazak are usually found to be in bright, primary colors – red being the most commonly used. Other features that mark rugs from this region include large-scale geometric designs with strong, angular lines. These design elements of the Kazak rug are translated in these socks by the use of a bright, tonal red yarn. The patterning is inspired by reducing Kazak design elements to their most basic form resulting in a textured, angular pattern that travels down the sock. The patterning itself is comprised of simple knits and purls, making it a great project for sock knitters looking to try a charted pattern for the first time.
