The small town of Joshaqan is centrally located in Iran and serves as the inspiration behind this sock pattern. Although scholars contest just how long back the history of rug making dates to, the one thing they all can agree on is the thriving textile industry that is booming there today. Joshaqan rugs have a very distinctive style that features a lattice design which usually contains a detailed floral motif at the center of each panel. Reds in additional to more neutral tones are traditional for this style of rug. A similar lattice design is created on the socks using traveling, twisted cables to create the diamond-shaped panels. A small lace detail is worked into the center of each lattice panel, referencing the floral motifs that are part of Joshaqan rugs.
