Inspired by the town of Gördes in western Turkey, these socks pay tribute to the rich history of the prayer rug that is commonly associated with this region. Rising to the height of popularity in the late nineteenth century, these prayer rugs feature an arch that was often supported by decorative columns. As socks, Gördes interprets this archetypal design with intertwining arches that weave in and out of each other. On either side of the center panel are small cabled columns that travel upward, joining together to form the arch design that is so common to the Gördes prayer rug.
