Climbing vines travel up this blanket, creating a simple but strong pattern.

I don't think it is very well known, but gojis are a beautiful and very hardy garden plant. I had not realized goji berries grew on a vine, much less that the vine could withstand a freezing winter and dry hot summers. But when it was given to my Dad as a gift, we were all quite surprised and delighted with it. (those who enjoy gardening know how fun it is to discover a new plant!) The goji was planted in the clay by the porch, and over the next years went from a couple spindly stems to a giant tangle covering the corner of the porch. Knowing it was a goji plant, and having never seen a fresh goji berry, we were particularly anticipating seeing fruit come, and for the next four years kept watching, and began wondering if the climate was not allowing it to produce? Or perhaps those silly bugs that were eating the leaves somehow stopped the blossoms from coming? After all those years, it has finally started growing berries and what fun it is!

Designing a blanket with a vine travelling on it, with leaves but no blossoms or fruit, what would I think of but that goji vine?

This pattern is both charted, and written out line by line. You can use whichever version you prefer, or both.

This blanket is knit straight, in one piece, from one end to the other. While it is knit back and forth, you will need a long (48 in or longer) circular needle to fit all the stitches on!

You will need to know how to knit basic lace (yo, k2tog, ssk) as well as some of the trickier stuff like double yarnovers, and k4tog. (but don't worry - it will be easy once you learn how!)
