Directions for this project in Knitting Little Luxuries. This purse was inspired by the wonderful embroidered straw bags popular in the 1950s. The herringbone stitch pattern makes the bag dense like a woven fabric and very strong and hard-wearing while the embroidered ribbon flowers bring a little three-dimensional romance to the finished piece. Shown in Wool of the Andes Camel Heather.

Notions: 13"x22" fabric for lining, 12"x19" iron-on interfacing, (2) 12"x2" pieces Timtex Interfacing for handles and assorted lengths of ribbon for embroidery.
Needles: Sizes 5 and 6: circular or straight
