When there is more than one independent melody line occurring at the same time within a piece of music it is contrapuntal, or the piece is utilizing counterpoint.
Counterpoint is a stylish, brimmed hat with a small, traveling cable detail that is flattering on both women and men. The hat is worked from the bottom up to the crown decreases. There is no shaping done within the knitting to accommodate the brim. Instead we are taking advantage of the natural stretch of ribbing and inserting a sheet of plastic canvas to extend the stitches. Alternately, the hat works just as well if you opt to leave out the plastic canvas and go for the classic upturned brim beanie.
